Basketball getting more offensive
Professional basketball certainly has excelled in offensive production in recent years. With bigger, stronger and more skilled players, it’s amazing how much talent goes on the court almost every night. Consider tins statistic. In 1977,
proved its mark to 4-3 with a 5447 triumph over Flexsteel (0-7). Mike Kissinger paced the winners with 16 points. Mike Thorn tallied 13 for the losers. Sturonjac increased its leagueleading mark to 94 with an 85-31 romp over 1-7 Super Sounds. Ron Sylvester led a balanced attack with 20 points. Bruce Zimmerman scored eight for Super Sounds. Laundry Basket also remained undefeated (74) with an 8048 route over Syracuse Rubber (44). Darrell Hicks led the winners with 24 points. Vincent Rhodes tallied 12 for Syracuse Rubber.
the team. He also has r 57 assists and is second on the team in steals. Kilgore owns a 5-5 record. In a recent game against Panola College, Zurcher canned 15 points and sparked the Rangers to a hard earned 71-69 win. He dished out eight assists and grabbed five rebounds to add to his fine overall play. Zurcher is a 1984 graduate of Wawasee High School.
the Los Angeles Lakers led the National Basketball Association in team offense, averaging 107 points a game. Only two teams averaged less than 100 points an outing that year. Not much has changed at the Lakers still lead in team offense. But the numbers are staggering since Los Angeles averages over 120 points an outing. More than half of the NBA teams score over 110 points a contest and only one team is under the century mark — the New York Knicks, despite the presence of Patrick Ewing.

Wawasee recovers with 45-43 win over Carroll
ByDAVESTRAUB Sports Editor Basketball wins come hard enough for the Wawasee Warriors to be picky. So they will gladly take Saturday’s 45-43 home court victory over Carroll and be satisfied with a 5-4 record. “We’re not overpowering,” said Coach John Wysong, realizing the limits of his team. “We have to take what we can get.” But the 2-6 Chargers were doing the taking much of the game since they patiently built a 29-25 lead at the half. After three quarters, Carroll still had a 33-30 edge. Wawasee tied it at 33 when Bill Hutchinson canned a 20-foot jumper with 6:12 remaining. With that bucket, the 64 senior had completed a stretch where he scored seven straight points to spark the comeback. This offensive flash began late in the third quarter when the Warriors started chipping away at the small lead. “In a low scoring game like this, that made a big difference,” said Wysong. Hutchinson scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds for the game. He also had four assists. Forward Jon Evans took scoring honors with 14 and hauled down seven rebounds. The 6-2 senior enjoyed a fine outing as he hit six of seven field goals. The Chargers regained leads of 35-33 and 37-35 on a pair of bank shots by Todd Dunne and Steve Merryman. Hutchinson added a bank shot and an 18-footer to put Wawasee ahead, 39-37. The Warriors never looked back. “They solved our zone defense pretty well,” said Wysong, thinking the Warriors physically matched up with Carroll. “Then we went back to man-to-man defenses and some things worked better for us on both ends. We were screening more for open shots and we played a patient game. As a result, our offense was efficient and that’s what we strive for,” he added. Dunne’s three-point play knotted the contest at 41 following a short jumper by Tim Mangas. But Dave Kistler nailed a 12-foot bank shot at the 1:45 mark to make it 43-41. Evans iced the game by hitting both ends of a bonus free throw situation with 13 seconds left. “We did a lot of pulling together tonight,” Wysong praised while mentioning that the Warriors were able to bounce back from a loss the night before (to West Noble). Wawasee has done this twice, including an important win over Triton (65-48) after suffering a blowout defeat to Warsaw. The Warriors hit 49 percent of their field goals while Carroll was less proficient, shooting just 41 percent. The Chargers made up for that with strong offensive rebounding as Dunne claimed 15 boards. Carroll posted 29 rebounds while Wawasee had 19. Kevin Shank paced the visitors Ice fishing Ice fishermen! No more cutting through a foot of ice to find six inches of water underneath. An index of over 2500 Wisconsin Mapped Lakes will help many ice fishermen enter the charmed circle of experts. A lake map is actually a hydrographic chart. So what’s a hydrographic chart? A hydrographic chart is simply a high-saluting term for a map showing the various depths of a lake along with other information that is so desirable to have for fishing... such as the kind of lake bottom (sand, mud, gravel, etc.). Suppose you want to fish for perch. You know his feeding habits and att what depths and over what kind of bottom he would be. With a Wisconsin Hydrographic Chart, you can see at a glance the general contour of the lake bottom and the exact depth of any given place along with the kind of condition of the bottom. with a game-high 16 points. Wes t Noble Too Mach Tom Schermerhorn burned Wawasee with 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead host West Noble to a 64-50 win. The 6-4 senior had things his way last Friday, hitting 15 of 16 field goals. Dan Sanchez added 10 more for the winners. The loss dropped the Warriors’ record to 44 before taking on Carroll Saturday. Evans paced Wawasee with 14 points. Mangas pitched in 10. West Noble converted 59 percent of its field goals while the Warriors shot poorly, hitting just 37 percent of their attempts. Wawasee was also outrebounded, 30-19. Plymouth Next The Warriors return to Northern Lakes Conference action with a home date against Plymouth this Friday.
