Lady Warriors make it four straight
By DAVE STRAUB Sports Editor “We’ll take it. A win is a win and we’re happy to be 6-2,” said Dale Brannock, Wawasee girls’ basketball coach. His Lady Warriors just sweated out a tough 49-48 win over' North Wood at home Monday night. It was Wawasee’s first Northern Lakes Conference triumph of the campaign. It also pushes the overall record to 6-2, extending the Lady Warriors’ winning streak to four games. That’s the good part. “We were flat, that was it,” added Brannock. “The good thing was that our key people did the necessary work to pull it out for us.” Wawasee was holding onto a 35-34 lead going into the fourth quarter. Following Michelle Harter’s bank shot, the Lady Panthers countered with buckets by Deena Jones and Tracy Eby, giving the visitors a 38-37 lead. Pacers offer scholarships
For the sixth straight year, the Indiana Pacers will offer two SI,OOO scholarships to Indiana high school seniors. The Indiana winners will be among 50 recipients throughout the nation who will be awarded scholarships of that amount by the National Basketball Association and its 23 teams. This is part of the league’s scholarship program which started in 1980. .In order to apply for a Pacers/NBA Scholarship, a high school senior must prepare and submit the following items: an official application form; a complete high school transcript; SAT and ACT scores; a letter of recommendation from advisor or faculty member and an essay of 500 words or less on “The Importance of a College Education.” ,rt', ’ To be eligible for a Pacers/NBA i Scholarship, a senior must live within a 75-mile

Missy Beck swished a pair of free throws to make it a onepoint game again, but the Lady Warriors effectively held onto the ball despite Northwood’s pressuring defense. Harter paced Wawasee with 16 points. Galloway scored 14 — 12 of those coming in the second half. Ann Vitaniemi enjoyed a fine outing, posting 10 tallies. Manchester Defeated The Lady Warriors blew last Thursday’s contest wide open in the second half with an 18-3 third quarter outburst, giving Wawasee a commanding 50-33 advantage. The Lady Warriors went on to beat Manchester, 64-53. Harter took scoring honors with 18. Galloway had 16 points. Yet, Wawasee failed to put the game away completely since it hit just six of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter. Warrior swimmers post third win
The Wawasee boys’ swim team claimed nine events in last Thursday’s 12547 home meet win over Rochester. It was the Warriors’ third win in four outings this season. Brad Smith led the way as he won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke races. Last night, Wawasee swam at Elkhart Central. Results from Thursday’s meet follow.
