LOUISA'S LETTER jffif
Dear Louisa, My husband is a minister and a very attractive man. Os course the women in his congregation make a great deal over him but I don’t object as I realize that is a part of his job. But what I do not like is the way he tries to manage me. He thinks he has the right to tell me the kind of clothes I should wear, the groceries I should buy and where I should go. It burns me up and causes a lot of dissention in our family as I consider myself an individual and not a puppet to jump when he pulls the strings. What can you do with a man like this? ? J.W.-Mo. Answer: There are always two sides to a question and I haven’t heard your husband’s side. From your account your husband seems to be too possessive and insecure — that is unless you are doing things and wearing clothes unbecoming to one in your position. As to clothes the majority of wives like to wear clothes that their husbands find attractive but that doesn’t mean that you have to make a spectacle of yourself if
Big Brother, Big Sister is explained
Jan Day, program director for the Big Brother-Big Sister program in Kosciusko County, spoke to the Milford Kiwanis Club about the areas’ program recently. In a 1980 census it was learned that about 2,500 children in Kosciusko County are from a oneparent family, according to Day. Thus far, there have been about 10 relationships in Kosciusko County and about 25 more children, between the ages of seven and 17 years-old, are waiting for someone to share two to five hours a week with them. “Just be a friend, someone who cares,” Day commented. “This is what the kids need.” ’
he has a phobia about short skirts
and wishes you to wear one down to your ankles. On the other hand a mini-skirt would certainly be out of place for a minister’s wife. As far as groceries are concerned, it might be well for you to shop together so that he will see how very expensive food is just now. If you like one thing and he another the idea is to compromise. But the man is too possessive defeats himself in the end. A person can stand just so much dictating to and will either blow up after a while or become a spiritless nonentity. You are an individual and should not be required to get permission for what you wish to do or where you wish to go. On the other hand, a minister’s wife — and any decent women for that matter — has responsibilities to consider and she should certainly do nothing or go to any place that would be a hindrance to her husband’s work or peace of mind. But the decision should be left to her. Louisa Address: Louisa, Box 532 Orangeburg, S.C. 29115
The process of matching a big brother or sister to a child takes a lot of work and visits to the homes of both parties’ families is part of the screening process. Police and reference checks are made on all persons interested in becoming a big brother or sister. Persons 18 years-old and above are eligible to apply. “You don’t have to spend a lot of money, just take the kid home with you; watch television, play games, or just sit and talk,” Day remarked. If you’re interested in becoming a big brother or sister, write to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Kosciusko Co., P. O. Box 651, Warsaw, Ind. 46580.
