Dual Coaches named— Wawasee gymnasts have potential

ByDAVESTRAUB Sports Editor Tracy Sumpter and Kim Conrad will share the main coaching duties for the Wawasee gymnastics team this season. And what they will be working on is an unpolished, but talented club. “They’re all back from last year,” said Sumpter, a former Wawasee standout who continued her gymnastics career at Ohio State University. “So we do have experience.” Most of the Lady Warriors are either seniors or freshmen. As of now, “they need a lot of polish,” said Sumpter. “January may seem like a long way off now,” added the coach. “But it will come very quickly since we have no routines made up. Right now, the girls are working on choosing floor exercise music and by Christmas break, everyone should have a routine.” By then, Sumpter hopes Wawasee is ready for its first meet, which will be at West Noble

In addition, Sumpter thinks five of these gymnasts are strong performers while the others have potential to be strong. “I think we can win the sectional,” she said when asked to evaluate the talent. “But there has to be consistency. The ability is there but they have to work. If they want to work, they will succeed. ”
