Ford Motor Company acquires Sperry New Holland assets
Ford Motor Comjiany will further strengthen its position in the worldwide agricultural equipment industry by acquiring from Sperry Corporation the assets of Sperry New Holland, the world's largest manufacturer of specialized farm equipment. In announcing the agreement with Sperry, Ford Chairman, Donald E. Petersen termed the transaction “consistent with our efforts to continue to improve Ford’s worldwide tractor and farm equipment business.’’ “As this industry has adjusted to worldwide market conditions, the trend has been toward stronger, full-line, manufactuerers. The acquisition of New Holland will help us compete vigorously in all segments of the industry,” the Ford chief executive officer said. Mr. Petersen said Ford is paying about $330 million for the Sperry New Holland agricultural equipment buisness, including worldwide assets, wholesale receivables, facilities in 10 countries and New Holland trademarks. Ford also will assume an estimated sllO million in liabilities. The final purchase price will be adjusted at closing. The transaction is subject to obtaining the necessary government clearances. With the acquisition of Sperry New Holland, Ford’s tractor and farm equipment business will have combined annual sales of more than $2 billion, 18,000 employees and sales outlets in more than 100 countries. “Our objective with both Ford Tractor and New Holland is to maintain and enhance their product integrity, dealer strengths and customer satisfaction,” Mr. Petersen said. “Ford contemplates no immediate changes — including no major changes in the New Holland product lineup. Huntington College enrollment rises Huntington College has announced a 15 percent increase in enrollment for the fall semester and is continuing to reach toward its goal of 750 students by the mid-19905. There are now 481 students compared with 418 for the faD of 1984. New students enrolled, both graduate and undergraduate, total 232 this year an increase of 53.6 percent from last fall. There is an even higher percentage of 58 percent increase in new undergraduate students who total 204 compared to 129 last faU. The increase is occurring when other college enrollments are declining.
