County scores success at Hospitality Days
For the first time since the development of the Kosciusko County Economic Development plan, representatives from throughout Kosciusko County were in attendance at Hoosier Hospitality Days. For the past three the community of Warsaw?) but this year, both the booth'/antj video were designed to portray all the member communities of Kosciusko Development, Inc. Communities represented at the Hoosier Hospitality Days in French Lick were Claypool, Etna Green, Milford, North Webster, Pierceton, Silver Lake and Warsaw. At this year’s show, Milford was represented by Dennis and Barb Wuthrich, Jean Treesh, Monica Bice and Paul Reith. The town of North Webster was represented by Myron Clark, and the town of Pierceton by Max NIPSCO field testing new unit A small, efficient unit that heats and cools air as well as provides hot water has been on the wish lists of builders of multifamily residential buildings in this country for a long time. 4 Their search could be over. Northern Indiana Public Service Company is field testing just such an appliance in Fort Wayne for the Gas Research Institute, research arm of the gas industry. NIPSCO is one of 32 utilities across the nation testing the appliance. If the program is successful, the appliance should reach the market early in 1987. The triple-integrated-appliance or TIA provides gas spaceheating and waterheating as well as electric air conditioning in a single package that uses only four square feet of floor space. “The designed efficiency of the unit is such that national gas customers using the appliances can expect bills to be as much as 50 percent lower than they would be with all-electric service for these purposes,” said I. J. Roberts, NIPSCO vice president of marketing. The appliance is designed to achieve a 90 percent seasonal heating efficiency, a Department of Energy recovery efficiency of 85 percent for water heating and cooling energy efficiency ratio of 8.5. The compact unit is easy to install, as it was designed for new multi-dwelling buildings, such as apartments, condominiums and townhouses, where space is a premium, he said. “Besides lower installation and operating costs, the appliance offers excellent comfort,” Roberts said. Advanced Mechanical Technology, Inc., of Newton, Mass., designed the appliance. The TIA uses a gas-fired condensing burner/broiler system powered by a forced-draft blower. Water is circulated in a closed loop through the boiler and directed to a warm-air coil in the air handling section or to an immersion coil in the water storage tank. “We are excited about the new energy-efficient appliances that are being tested and those recently appearing on the market,” Roberts said. “With an ample supply of natural gas and rates that are among the lowest in the nation, our customers can realize even better energy bargains with our service.” Have a safe Halloween The Indiana State Medical Association suggests a few precautions parents should take during Halloween: accompany young children, stay within the neighborhood near homes that are familiar, never let the children go alone or to a stranger’s house, instruct children not to eat candy that is not individually wrapped, inspect all candy and fruit before allowing the children to eat it, and make sure the costume is easily visible to motorists. Other tips include instructing children to stay in well-lighted areas and on sidewalks, not to accept rides from strangers, set a time limit for trick-or-treating and make sure the children have emergency information with * them such as name, address, and telephone number.
Jones and Dana Krull. Representing Warsaw were Virginia Summe, Jeff Plank, Bill Henthorn, Max Courtney, Leo Pfistr and Ernie Wiggins. The Chamber/KDI staff representing Kosciusko County were Jennifer Richmond and Deb Wiggins. Volunteers from throughout Kosciusko County helped make this event possible. Harv Miller narrated the video presentation, while employees of United Telephone Company worked with the staff, designing the video. Larry and Shirley Polk donated the use of their van to transport the booth and other printed literature to French Lick. Volunteers working the booth had the opportunity to meet over 100 different prospects from throughout the country. Additionally, they were in the position to meet over 100 consultants to firms possibly considering relocation. County representatives distributed over 100 packets of promotional material on Kosciusko County. The Chamber/KDI staff will be following up on all leads received during Hoosier Hospitality Days over the next few months. Over 130 other communities participated in the Hoosier Hospitality Days. Area resident receives military award Spec. 4th Class Michael J. Fodor, North Webster, has been selected by the Military Department of Indiana to receive the Indianapolis Star and News Military Achievement Award. Winners are selected based on their individual drill attendance, judgment, reliability, leadership, appearance, attitudes and preparation for advancement. Fodor is a member of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 151st Infantry, Indiana Army National Guard, Warsaw. He will be presented the award at the Annual Veterans Day Banquet to be held November 12, in the Murat Temple, Indianapolis.
