Area woman

puts creativity to work

A couple of months ago a high wind blew a big limb off a tree in the front yard at the home of Amber Zirkle, Barbee Lake, and left a large bare spot. Mrs. Zirkle told this reporter, “I didn’t like the look of that big raw spot. I thought, surely that is a place to put something to bring a smile to people’s faces.” Mrs. Zirkle put her creativity to work. With the center discs from canning jar lids and big black buttons, she made eyes for a “tree face.” A corn cob was used for the mouth and a piece of corn cob for the nose. The hair, beard and mustache are made from corn silks. Her project did accomplish what she had hoped. It brought smiles to her neighbors faces.

THE CAT still won’t come out of the bathroom, especially when anyone is watching. She is eating her food so we know she does come out.

We had guests one evening last week. It was embarrassing to have to haul the cat, kicking and screaming, to another part of the house every time someone wanted to visit the bathroom. Our bathroom is very small.. We finally put her outdoors. She stationed herself smack in the middle of the sidewalk and refused to budge. When our guests left, they were forced to step oyer a very surley cat or walk out in the grass and get their feet wet. They didn’t say a word about us visiting them or even hint that they would ever be back.

TILL NEXT week.

Conders attend

spa seminar

Jimmy and Donna Conder of Leisure Pools, Syracuse, attended a special three-day spa seminar last week in Fort Wayfie, at which they were further educated on the procedure of acrylic repair on both marble and solid color acrylic spas. Also included in the spa seminar were tile replacement and trouble shooting of the mechanical parts of the Spa Pack itself. Leisure Pools is featuring many different spas which include Weatherking, Jacuzzi, and Down East. Jimmy is very selective in the type of spas placed in the store and deals primarily in products which, if a part has to be replaced, can be done easily. Also included in the store among many swimming pool supplies are special sanitizers and chemicals to be used safely and conveniently for your spa. Stop in and see the different models already in the store and the different styles and colors to choose from.

Syracuse Lions learn about BZA

The Syracuse Lions Club met recently with Vice President Stu Walker conducting the meeting in the absence of President Charles Haffner. Ralph Thornburg won the wild tie contest which opened the meeting. A short presentation on the Lions past support of the 4-H program was given, followed by a 4-H bull judging contest by the Lions present. Four bulls, imported especially for the contest, included a king sized Texas longhorn, a short-haired Brahma bull, a range bull and a prize heavy-flanked prime American Hereford. Lion Mac McKinley was the winning judge as he guessed the combined weights of the animals exactly. Lion Ed Harting was runner-up, missing the total by only one pound. The main program of the evening was given by Lions Stu Walker and Jim Tranter, who discussed the functions of the Board of Zoning Appeals. The talk included many of the humorous situations which occur when people proceed to build or alter their land and buildings without conforming to zoning law. A visiting group of Nappanee Lions participated in the night’s activities. Lodge of Instructions Oct. 7 at Milford A lodge of Instructions will be held Monday, Oct. 7, at Milford for members of Kosciusko Lodge 418 F & AM.
