May is National High Blood Pressure Month
May is National High Blood ] Pressure month and Hook Drugs, I Inc. is joining the National Heart, i Lung and Blood Institute’s efforts ] to educate the public about ad- < vances in blood pressure control. | High blood pressure can cause strokes, heart attacks, and kidney disease. A person usually cannot tell if he or she has high blood pressure so it is necessary to have a doctor or nurse check it. Anyone can have it. Usually high blood pressure will not go away and it is not curable. Once a person is on medication, do not stop treatment unless the doctor says to stop. Some people only take their pills when they feel bad. Some take them when they feel good. Both ways are wrong. Everyone should follow their treatment every day. Ways To Help The doctor may ask the individual to do other things 1 besides take pills. Maybe cut down on salt or lose weight. Tell family and friends about the treatment. They can remind the individual to take his medication or cook meals with a diet in mind. Or the doctor may also ask the patient to stop smoking and/or exercise more. If the individual stops treatment, his blood pressure will go back up. If treatment is started again, blood pressure will go back down. All Hook’s Drug Stores offer a free informational brochure with facts and tips about high blood Builders Exchange of St. Joseph Valley, Inc. 215 Marycrest Building South Bend, Indiana 46621 F. W.
