New Salem renovated
By GLEN LONG Staff Writer The newly remodelled New Salem Church of the Brethren, located southeast of Milford, will be dedicated on April 21 at the 10:30 a.m. church service. The congregation of about 125 members can be justly pleased that they have provided such a beautiful auditorium. They have held their services in the basement fellowship hall for two months while the work was in progress. Pastor Glenn Byers will give the dedication message, being assisted in the service by Rev. Howard Kreider. Special music will be played by member Steve Buchanan on the concert grand piano which he donated to the church. The extensive remodelling involved moving the front wall back about six feet, installing a new baptismal tank covered by ah impressive arched alcove, painting the entire auditorium and adding new carpeting. The moving of the wall opened a large window on each side of the room. This lets in more outdoor light to the pulpit area. The trustees of the church are chairman Glen Morehouse, Earl Kammerer and Frank Johnson. Roy Buhrt, Syracuse, was the

FOR ETHIOPIAN AIRLIFT — The ladies of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel Women’s Missionary Service Commission (WMSC) have been busy with their needles and yard making pieced baby blankets and lap robes and pieced and knotted comforters for the May 15th airlift to Ethiopia. ■ •*».. «>ql ’ B .jpf ■? .(■J. TO GIVE LECTURE — William S. Stay will give his lecture. ‘‘God’s Gift to ManFreedom.** on April 18 at 8 p.m. It is sponsored by the First Church of Christ. Scientist as a service to the community and will be held at the church edifice. 11l North Fifth Street in Goshen. The public is invited to attend free of charge and care for small children will be provided. Stay, of South Africa, says freedom is a divine right. Economic difficulties, unemployment and even illness can seem as painfully enslaving as the blatant political and social oppressions that limit human potential. His lecture doesn't offer a simplistic panacea, but it does examine bible based approaches which are effectively challenging contemporary limitations. Active in the Christian healing ministry as a Christian Science practitioner, Stay is convinced that “The fullest meaning of freedom** is found in the liberty that comes as men and women of all races and creeds recognize themselves as children of God. Perhaps the central message of his lecture is that people need not be trapped by the restrictions of morality. To illustrate his points he cites Jesus* ministry of healing that freed countless people physically, morally and spiritually. 'Sand Castles' offers hope Zion Chapel United Brethren Church will present the film, “Sand Castles,” on Sunday, April 21, at the 9:30 a.m. service. This film offers hope for the families of America. It is about two neighboring families, one with Jesus Christ in their lives and one without. It is a rare insight into the emotions and struggles of a family on the decline and the hope and commitment that Jesus Christ offers them. “Sand Castles” is about truth in the sense of who Jesus is and how he wants our lives to be built on solid foundations. Priorities, communication, commitment, bearing one another’s burdens and the willingness to share Christ’s love with others is at the heart of “Sand Castles”, the movie. ' Zion Chapel is located at the corner of CR 1000 N and the Syracuse-Webster road.
