By CHAR BUTLER Guest Feature Writer Franklin likes to visit me. He’s the .grandson of my next door neighbor and has a quick, inquisitive mind. I call him ‘Fritz’, after a provacative conversation the first day he wandered into my apartment, several months ago. It went like this: “Hi! ” Fritz stood motionless at my right side, me pounding away at my typewriter. I hadn’t heard him walk in; he wore sneakers. “Hello! Where did you come from?”
CPR classes at Goshen Hospital
Goshen General Hospital is offering a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) class on Monday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the hospital’s Education Department. Cardiopulmonary Resusciation is an emergency measure which almost everyone can learn in a short time. CPR may keep the heart attack patient alive until more advanced life support is available. When a person’s heart stops for any reason, heart attack, electrical shock, drowning, smoke inhalation — the first few minutes can mean the difference between life and death. The American Heart Association estimates that 50,000 heart attack victims could be saved annually if emergency care were available at the scene. CPR can provide that immediate care. It involves mouth-to-mouth breathing and chest massage to restart the stopped heart. Its purpose is to keep the heart attack victim alive until advanced life support is available. Traditionally immediate family members: spouses, children, parents, brothers and sisters, etc. are the ones that are lined up behind the funeral coach and pall bearers closely behind them, for easy accessibility at the cemetery. Because of space limitations it is not possible for distant relatives and friends to be lined up directly behind the coach. For this reason we generally line up family members first.

copy. Here, sit on this chair beside me and I’ll finish. I might even write about you.” I completed my story and inserted a new sheet of paper in the typewriter. “Okay; this is about you. First, what’s your name?” “It’s Franklin, but everyone calls me ‘Fritz’.” “And, how old are you, Fritz?” “Five. What are you writing?” “A story about you. How you wandered in here and what your name is and how old you are.” “Is that what you write for the newspaper?” “Oh, sometimes.” “What do you write about?” “Mostly about people. I call it ‘Fun Without Malice’.” “What’s malice?” “It’s writing bad things, but I write nice things about people. And someplace in it there’s a laugh and a lesson, of sorts.” Fritz squirmed in his seat. “What’s a lesson?” “Did you ever hear the story about the little boy who called ‘wolf’?” “Yes. He got etup.” “Why?” “ ’Cause he called ‘wolf’ too much and nobody heard him. ” “And what kind of a lesson was that?” “If ya don’t wanta get et up by a wolf you don’t call ’em.” With that kind of logic he’s sure to be famous when he grows up.
