These concerns faded quickly, however, and they experienced a very spiritually meaningful trip. TOURED HOLY LAND — Milly and Allen Shively, Syracuse, enjoy telling the REAL group of their trip to the Holy Land.
Baldwins report from mission field
Dear family and friends, Have you realized just how valuable you are to us on the mission field? We receive letters telling us how important We are. but often we don’t do the same for you. Together we re like a puzzle. You are home praying for us . . . You encourage us . . . You support us financially. We have our work here in Mali. . . helping to build the Lord’s Church. It isn’t difficult to see how all the pdzzle pieces fit together. Several months hack, UWM informed you of our financial peeds. We personally have hesitated to write you about our situation. Since arriving in Mali, October 1981, the cost of living has increased drastically. It now takes S6OO more per mjonth to keep up with inflation. (The Africans are feeling it too.) Some of our supporters have had to dyop their commitment, but we have gained new ones also; however, not enough to cover our needs. Please pray with us that the Lord will give His blessing to our situation. Christmas Day was an exciting time for us, OUr church held 276 believers who walked in from surrounding villages to be a part of the big festivities. Christmas Eve was an all-night sing for the Africans. It blessed our hearts to wake during the night and hear the joyful voices of all these Christians. After our morning Christmas church service, we ate with the group. I was glad not to have been one chosen to cook for the > 300. We do trust your holidays and Christmas Day were blessed as well. Julie continues to be a great joy in our lives. At 20 months she’s into everything. She is also picking up many things from playing with her friends. An empty can or box becomes a drum she taps her hands on. The children love to watch her walk around with a doll tied to her back, or carrying a small bundle on her head — like they do. We sure appreciate your prayers for the Lord’s continued protection for Julie as she plays each day.

One great blessing recently is word of over $4,000 given to the airplane ministry during October . . . just the amount of money needed to purchase a high frequency radio... so very much needed, and one which will mean so very much to our field. Thank you each one who has given to this. All other donations will continue to be used for the hundred other needs we have in the aviation ministry. In closing, we’d like to share a little poem with you. It was written by another missionary couple: A missionary is a person who ... bleeds when.cut ) laughs at a joke likes-to receive chocolates, becomes sick sometimes » worries about the children occasionally has a brilliant thought gets behind gets caught up cries when a neighbor dies becomes impatient when progress is slow reads a book just for fun isn’t very saintly most of the time . . . Missionaries are terribly human . . . that’s why we count on your daily prayers. The Lord guide and bless each of you in this new year. “May all who are thankful for your salvation always say ‘How Great Is God.’ ” (Psalm 70:4) Love in Christ, Chuck, Debby and Julie Baldwin B.P. 15 Kenieba, via Bamako Mali, West Africa
