LOUISA'S i letter
Dear Louisa, I’ve been going with a man for about five years and he gave me an engagement ring three years ago but he never says anything about getting married. We enjoy each others company but I am getting worried as no other man pays me any attention now and I used to be popular. What should I do in this situation? J.H. — Minn. Answer: Set a date and if he doesn’t cooperate give him up as you are wasting your time as far as a prospective husband is concerned. Louisa Dear Louisa, We have a problem. have asked mother to live with us but I know she will object to many things the girls do while she is here nd she doesn’t mind saying what she thinks. My husband is afraid that this will upset our pleasant home life. Do you think I should have a talk with mother about this situation. It is not a question of money as she is well able to live as she chooses. Quite House — Miss. Answer: I think you should talk the situation over with your mother before she moves in. She may decide to rent an apartment ne>r by or, if it suits all of you to build a small apartment adjoining your house. In that way you can both have your privacy but be near enough to see one another often or to be close by when either of you needs help. Louisa Address: Louisa, 80x532, Orangeburg, S. C. 29115

Hobby of collecting
By JOHN SCHANBACHER Guest Feature Writer I am a collector, as many people are. I figure if a person has two or more of one item, he or she is a collector, knowing it or not! I sat down one day and wrote down over 100 items that men, women and children collect. Some are valuable in price while others are just valuable to their owner. Some have had items handed down from generation to generation, others have attended auctions, yard sales and benefit sales. As an American, we throw away so much so-called junk every day. We waste vast amounts of worthy usable items. However, when we do that, it opens up a whole era of collecting. I dug in the ground for many years and know from experience what was discarded in the past. I’ve found good fruit jars, salt cellars, porcelain plates and one time, an old pewter powder flask with ornate designs on it. The latter was in very bad shape but was still recognizable. Maybe a person never intended to be a collector. Suppose a man with a lot on his mind went out into the countryside to try to clear his mind. While sitting in the grass, he spies a four leaf clpver. A thought appears in his mind. This item would be an artistic item to have a good many of, mainly for good luck but maybe to be different than anyone else. Thus a collector is born. Once the craving gets in a “person’s blood,” nothing stands in their way to acquire more of a particular thing. I am speaking of my own personal beliefs and your situation or beliefs would vary. This field has unlimited possibilities. It’s time consuming, expensive and heartbreaking but isn’t is fun? As follows I’m listing a* few items I’ve seen people collect or would desire to collect. There are probably hundreds of others. What’s yours? Bottles, paper weights, salt cellars, buttons, figurines, sale and pepper shakers, thimbles,
