There will be stations set up throughout the woods where State Foresters will be giving lessons on such topics as Timberstand Improvement, Tree Planting, Wildlife Management, and Timber Marketing, to name a few. Gene Hassler, a retired State Forester, will be serving his famous “Crik Bake Taters,” courtesy of the SWCD. These potatoes are sliced thin, and baked in aluminum foil with bacon bits, thinly sliced onions, and sausage. Kenneth Haney’s woods was picked as the site for this field day because it is one of the best managed wood lots in the state. His woods contains high quality black walnut, white oak, and red oak. The wood lot is Haney’s hobby as well as his livelihood. He sells the trees for timber. The woodlot is so efficiently managed that the State Foresters must tell everyone that this is not the norm. Haney even fertilizes his trees. Haney’s woods is located on CR 1050 N, just a little bit west of CR 500 W. There will be signs up directing people from the stoplight in Milford. The SWCD staff is urging all to come on out to see the pretty fall foilage and an excellent example of wood lot management
