Tippy Club plans for fall trip Zola Knorr, Orangevale, Calif., was a guest at the Sept. 19 meeting of Tippecanoe Township Club held at North Webster Church of God. Hostesses were: Betty Hinton, Ruth Boyer and Clar Brodrick. Mrs. Hinton opened the business session by reading the poem, “Autumn Fires” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Pledges to the American and Christian flags were led by Dot Kurth. The club creed was repeated in unison. Maxine Gaston played the piano for group singing. Roll call was answered by 30 persons. Roll call response was, “What I plan to make for the Christmas bazaar.” Minutes of the August meeting were read by Virginia Perry. Geneva Belcher gave the treasurer's report. A thank you note from Estaleen Harney and a letter from the United Way were read by Mrs. Perry. Mabie Gee told how to dry plants and prepare lawns for winter Valeria Merkey reminded everyone that: perfume attracts mosquitoes and other insects, don’t purchase meat if the package is torn or damaged and beware when picking wild mushrooms. Wilma Conner reported on, “New Hope For Lung Cancer. ” Mrs. Kurth announced that places to be visited on the club’s October trip are: Tippecanoe Place, Century Center and a shopping mall. There were six members who attended Elko Home Makers Camp. During camp festivities Ida Hart and Goldie Hunnicutt were each awarded a piece of bubble gum; Mrs. Hart for being married the longest and Mrs. Hunnicutt for having the most grandchildren. Mrs. Hinton noted that club members will help prepare the county newsletter for mailing in October and will host the president’s council luncheon in December. She also expressed an interest in the group doing more volunteer work during the coming year. Ruth Dunker will attend a program planning meeting in October at South Bend. A carry-in dinner was served at noon. Tables were decorated with baskets of fresh fall flowers. Mrs. Boyer led group singing of, “Our Great God” before the meal was served. Following dinner a craft lesson of crewel stitchery was taught by Wanda Neibert and Desiree Smith. Nora Menzie and daughter honored Nora Menzie and her infant daughter. Rachael Ann, who was born Aug. 27. were guests of honor at a baby shower held Sept. 17 at the home of Judy Menzie, Nappanee. The gift and refreshments table were decorated with pink bows and ribbons. There were approximately 30 guests present from North Webster, Pierceton, Nappanee and Goshen Special guests present were: Mrs. Eileen Gradeless, Rachael Ann’s great-great-grandmother; and Imogene Menzie and Ruby Whelen, Rachael Ann’s, greatgrandmothers. Those attending from North Webster were: Imogene Menzie; Beyerly Hathaway and daughters, Beth and Lori; Helen Staley; and Lynn Herendeen. Membership drive for women's club Lakeland Women's Club members held their first meeting of the fall season on Sept. 13 at North Webster United Methodist Church Lucy White opened the meeting and announced that her family is moving out of the area making it necessary that she resign as president. Leia Ledyard was appointed to serve as president till the end of this year. A club outing to Shipshewanna was planned for Sept. 19. It was noted that there are now five

women in the book club and others are invited to join. Marian Steedman announced that league bowling has started for the year. The possibility of a membership drive was discussed. Mrs. White led as the Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. Members were asked to take a sack lunch to the October meeting. A craft project will be worked on for the Community Christmas bazaar. Refreshments were served by Betty Beeman. Louise Shaner will provide refreshments for the October meeting. Membership in the Lakeland Women’s club is open to any women who is interested. Organizational meeting held for Cub pack Adults who are interested in North Webster Cub Scout Pack 3726 recently held an organizational meeting to plan for the 1984-85 school year. Adults in attendance were Cathy Ross, Phyllis Harris, Barb Goodpaster, Patty Hormann, Deb Singery, Cheryl Merchant and Sue Ann Mitchell. Schedules were formed for goodwill projects at Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, the annual fund raising cake auction and other tentative plans were made for the entire year. Registration for boys eight to ten years old, who are interested in Scouting, will be held Oct. 11, at 7 p.m., at The Palace of Sports. All parents of boys who are interested in becoming Scouts should plan to attend the organizational meeting. Anyone wanting information concerning the Scouting program in North Webster should contact Sue Ann Mitchell, acting cub master. Conservation club has carry-in Roger Allen, vice president, o opened the Sept. 18 meeting of Barbee Conservation club held at Barbee Conservation club building with 52 persons present. A carry-in supper was served. * The invocation was given by Margaret Applegate. Tables were decorated with oil lamps and fall flowers. Members of the dinner committee were: Mr. and Mrs. Curt Jordan, chairman; Sadie Reynolds, Sue Stephan, Dalice Buzzard and Bart Brugh. A program was given by Mike Miner, Kosciusko County Prosecuting attorney, who explained the “Crime Stoppers” program and Tom Kitch, who talked about the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s department. Minutes of the Sept. 3 board of directors meeting were read by Monica Janacek. Harold Henry’ read the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Janacek also reported on the August hog roast. A clean-up day, for the club house, is scheduled for Oct. 6 starting at 8 a m. Volunteers are needed. It was reported that Rhonda Ousley has been released from the hospital and is now recouperating at home. A Halloween costume party is planned for the October meeting. Guests are always welcome. Recipe exchange for Golden Aprils Polly Adkins was hostess for the Sept. 18 meeting of Golden April Club. Sheila Collier brought a zucchini pie for everyone to taste during the recipe exchange Roll call response was, “My favorite plant.” Pam Kistler and Nancy Stoddard were welcomed as new members. A plant exchange was enjoyed. Several members received gifts from their secret pals. The lesson entitled, “Stress” was given by Gail Martin. Jane Demske discussed health and safety and Mrs. Adkins presented garden remarks. Naopy Barker was presented with a potted plant. The location of the October meeting has been changed from he home of Diane Dial to the home of Mrs. Demske. Time will be spent making grape vine wreaths for the Christmas bazaar. 'School' is topic for Lady Lions The first meeting of the fall season for North Webster Lady Lions was held Sept. 20 at North Webster United Methodist Church. Theme for the evening was, “Back to school.” Members were attired in clothing from their high school or college days. Backwater Friends plan for bazaar Backwater Friends met Sept. 20 at the home of Sara Rhodes with Wanda Mickley as assistant hostess. Devotions were given by Mrs. Mickley.. The lesson “Diabetes” was given by Dorothy Snoke. During the cultural arts lesson Mrs. Mickley displayed items that have been made for the country bazaar booth at the upcoming North Webster School Fall Carnival.'-’ Some discussion was held pertaining to the new North Webster public beach. Wanda Mickley is chairman of the country bazaar which will offer such handmade items as: Christmas decoration, refrigerator magnets, doll clothes, wail plaques, potholders, grape vine wreaths, pillows, dried flowers and much more. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of teaching aids and equipment for the school. Barbara Sledge is general chairman. -A)- v GRANDMOTHER SAYS. “We don’t hear much protest about the high taxes on cigarettes, alcohol, entertainment, etc., but many citizens begrudge taxes for schools.” A DOOR to door campaign is underway in Tippecanoe Township to raise funds for an air compressor to be used by the North Webster volunteer firemen and EMS. Homemakers learn about grapes Lois Royer was hostess for the Sept. 20 meeting of Efficient Homemakers club. Devotions were given by Vera Zurcher. She read from I Corinthians 13.
