Meals for older Americans
Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The American Legion, SR 13 Syracuse; the Pierceton Community Building; Mentone Community Room in the fire station; and the Retired Tigers Center, 320 W. Main, Warsaw. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals.
Knapp ,Lake Association installs new officers
The annual carry-in dinner of the Knapp Lake Association was held at the clubhouse on Sunday. Sept. 2. Following the dinner, a meeting was held and officers for the coming year were installed. Serving for the coming year are: Robert Chivington — president Jesse Hyder — vice president Margaret Williams — treasurer Ruth Mast — secretary A discussion was held on having the EMS lanes posted at the roads to the lake. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site, directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by 1 p m. the day prior to attending.

Following the meeting, Mark Hines, conservation officer in Noble County, spoke and answered questions regarding laws concerning piers, boats and the lake. He agreed to return to a meeting to be held in June. 1985.

The prize was won by Vera Craven. On Oct 9. the group will meet at noon for a pre-Christmas party at The Classic restaurant. Saturday. Sept. 22, at the Classic Restaurant. North Webster. The former Dorothy Kennedy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Kennedy of South Whitley, and Preston Gregory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gregory of Columbia City, were married at the home of the bride's parents on Saturday, Sept. 22. 1934. Rev. Amsa Snell, pastor of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, officiated. The couple's attendants were J. Robert Kennedy, brother of the bride, and Edith Snell, now Mrs. J. Robert Kennedy. Mr. and Mrs. Gregory are the parents of two children, Danny Gregory of Oswego, and Mrs. Randall (Judith) Vickers of Hamilton. The couple also has five grandchildren. Darren and Danielle Gregory: Geremie, Dustyn and Jason Pierson. Although there will be no open house, the couple will enjoy hearing from friends. 4
'Costa Rico' topic for first Kiwanis Club travel program
‘‘Costa Rica: Gem of the Americas” will be presented on Thursday evening, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m., in the Wawasee High School Auditorium by the Lakeland and Milford Kiwanis Clubs. This will be the first program of the Travel and Adventure Film Series. The film is by Steve Gonser. Costa Rica has so much to share: lush tropical forests, warm, sandy beaches; and an average annual temperature of 72 degrees. The national mood is one of youth and optimism. Costa Rica's “friendly-by-nature” atmosphere is an experience to savor. Go to the root of Costa Rica through an exploration of PreColumbian civilization at Guayabo National Monument. Diane Hoimgrain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Holmgrain, r 9 box 100, Warsaw, and Gregory W. Sasso, son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Sasso, r 9 box 116, Warsaw, were united in marriage, Saturday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. Dr. Barton Fletcher performed the double-ring ceremony at the First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, before 275 guests. The candlelight ceremony was performed before an altar decorated with vases of apricotcolored gladiolas and white daisies. A unity candle was also placed on the altar. Music for the ceremony was provided by Tony Morgano and Lisa Mucker. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin, with an off the shoulder bodice accented with pearls and a chapel-length train. The bride made her illusion veil and blusher, attached to a lace cap accented by pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Michele Banashak of Merrillville was the maid of honor. She wore a floor-length, off-the-shoulder gown of apricot-colored taffeta and carried a bouquet of apricot-colored gladiolas. The bride’s mother wore -a floor-length, gown of periwinkle blue chiffon. The groom’s mother wore a tea-length gown of apricot chiffon. Both wore corsages of white roses. A reception, following the ceremony, was held at Camelot Hall, North Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Dillon, Watsela, 111., served as hosts. Miss Kim Knudsen and Mrs. Mike Dickin cut and served the wedding cake. The couple are both 1980 graduates of Warsaw Community High School. The bride also graduated from Ball State University in 1984. The groom is finishing work at Purdue University this semester. Following a wedding trip to Michigan, the couple is residing in West Lafayette.
