EKwBHHIHr Hi 111 rdE WARRIOR OF THE MONTH — Wawasee High School is pleased to announce that Doctors Michael Williams. Thomas Krizmanich and Thomas Johnson are recipients of this month’s “Warrior of the Month” award. The presentation was made at halftime of the Wawasee-Bremen football game. The honorary award is given to a citizen of our community not employed by the Lakeland Community School Corporation. It is based upon that person's contributions to Wawasee High School and the special service the school has realized as a result of their effort. Presenting the award, is Wawasee High School’s way of saying thank you for your service. All three doctors have given much help and training to the athletic department, and trainer, Terri Stevens. They have attended the athletic events and have served as a very valuable resource in emergency and non-emergency situations. In addition, they organized the first annual WHS physical. Their time and energy has been donated on frequent occasions for the betterment of Wawasee High School and the WHS athletic department. Retired teachers meet
The Kosciusko County Retired Teachers’ Association met Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Shrine Building in Warsaw'. A buffet luncheon was served to 109 members and guests. Following the meal. Howard Bock, retiring president, installed the following officers for the 1984-85 year: Virginia Ditmer — president Arleen Miner — vice president Betty Kaye Smith — recording secretary Anne Watts — corresponding secretary Joan Sharp — treasurer Esther Phleiderer — assistant treasurer Arleen Miner, program chairman, then introduced Ron Robinson and Mike Mock, law enforcement officers in Kosciusko County. The officers spoke to the group on the work of the Crime Stoppers organization, noting its early success and urging community people to become involved. Niccum scholars announced Midwest Commerce Banking Company, on behalf of the Niccum Educational Trust Foundation, has announced the recipients of the foundation’s scholarship awards for the 1984-1985 school year. This year scholarships will be awarded to: Elkhart — David Schultheis, a senior at Albion College; Clare Schultheis, a junior at the University of Notre Dame Syracuse — Teresa Smith, a sophomore at Ball State University The foundation was established in 1955 by Marjorie H. Niccum with memorial gifts and funds from the estate of her husband Elmo E. Niccum. Scholarships are awarded to eligible students in Elkhart, St. Joseph, Marshall, Kosciusko, Noble and LaGrange Counties. The scholarships are based on academic performance, financial need and personal achievements. Recipients may apply for renewal each subsequent year.

A training session was hekJJn Warsaw recently for the Stale Retired Teachers Committee persons. Recently retired teachers were introduced to the group and the membership committee announced a membership of 106 persons presently. The next meeting will be Oct. 9. Melissa Baumgartner at New College Melissa Baumgartner of Milford has enrolled at New College in Sarasota, Fla., for the fall term. New College is the honors college of the University of South Florida. The college is proud of its reputation as one of the most selective liberal arts schools in the country. The fall term opened August 27.
FUND RAISING FOR BAND TRIP — Members of the Wawasee High School Marching Band are planning a car wash on Saturday, Sept. 22, to raise funds for their trip to the Peach Bowl Festival parade and pregame ceremonies in Atlanta, Ga., on December il. Students are collecting pledges of one cent for each car washed, up to a total of 500 cars. There will be no charge for washing the cars.
