An interesting class on how to raise bees will be given at Wawasee High School as part of the adult education program. The teachers will be Mr. and Mrs. Don Watkins long time experienced bee-keepers. In the class you will learn about honeybees and how to get started in bee-keeping from the equipment needed, to caring for the bees, and harvesting the honey. The life story of a honeybee is so interesting it is unbelievable the intricate life they live. Mr. Watkins was a commercial beekeeper on the west coast and he n ow has around 30 hives and is an active hobby bee-keeper. Captain William J. Mey, of the United Nations Air Force, visited recently with his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mey. Captain Mey just returned from Beiruit, Lebanon, Israel, where he served as personal pilot for General Beneike, General in Command of the Mediterranean Forces of the United Nations. The Texaco Station located two miles south of Syracuse on State Road 13 was recently leased to Ernest (Flash) Fleischauer and James Corman. Mr. Fleischauer graduated from Syracuse High School and worked for the S. & M. Motors. He and his wife, and two children, Cheryl and Roger, reside at the east end of Lake Wawasee. Mr. Corman, uncle of Mr. Fleischauer owned and operated a garage and station for eight years at Hammond and now resides on Papakeechie Lake. 50 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 13,1934 Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Leas entertained at their summer home on the South Shore of Lake Wawasee Sunday, honoring Mrs. harriet Cotherman, mother of Mrs. Leas, who celebrated her ninety-first birthday anniversary. Covers were spread for twelve and a delicious dinner was enjoyed and the day was spent socially. Mrs.Cotherman is exceptionally well for one of her years and has spent the past fifteen summers at Lake Wawasee. Besides her daughter, Mr s W. b. Leas, she has one son, M. A. Cotherman of Ligonier, manager and publisher of the Ligonier Banner. Mr. and Mrs. John Bowser are moving to the Matt Long farm, formerly the Ed Craft farm. Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Smiley of Warsaw called on Miss Flogretta Master, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ira Crow spent Saturday afternoon with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Wingard.
