ing teams 16 days to prepare for their Aug. 24 openers. Coach Myron Dickerson is encourgaed with the turnout for this year’s team. Although he has a only seven seniors out for the sport, Dickerson is pleased with the overall number of prospects. “I’m quite happy with the ' number of people we have,” he noted. “The numbers are up slightly from last year. The big thing that we have to face is that we have a small senior class.”

Those seniors, though they are small in number, will be expected to fill a big role for the 1984 Warriors. Along with the other returning lettermen, 11 altogether, they are going to have a large say in whether or not Wawasee can improve upon its 4-6 record of 1983. The quarterback position figures to be a Warrior strong point in this campaign. Juniors Steve Galegor and Brad Traviolia split playing time at that position last fall and are back to challenge each other for the starting role this season. “We are not going to alternate people’ this year,” Dickerson noted. “Someone is going to have to step in and be the one. But both (Galegor and Traviolia) will play regularly at some position.” Galegor is currently hampered due to a broken hand. At this point, Dickerson is unsure when he will have the cast removed. Another returning player who figures to play a big role on this year’s team is senior Brad Mitchell. He will be counted on to direct the defense in addition to playing a position, at this point undecided, on the offensive unit. Ideally, Dickerson would like to platoon his units, not using too many players in dual roles. But whether or not he can do that depends on the progress of some of the younger players. “We are blessed this year with a large number of linemen,” said Dickerson. “I would like to be able to just use players one way, but I’ll just have to wait and see. There are probably some that will have to fill two roles.” Two leading offensive returnees are running back Steve Yoder and tight end Kevin Ladies golf results South Shore The South Shore Ladies Golf Association has announced the winners of its annual handicap tournament. Tracey. Yoder was the top ground gainer in 1983, piling up 666 yards. Tracey was named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference team at his position. The kicking game is Wawasee’s biggest question mark at this point. All-NLC kicker Kris Cox was lost to graduation and Dickerson has yet to find a replacement. “We are going to have to find someone to handle the punting, kick-off and field goal duties,” Dickerson said. “That will be a big replacement.” Cluster The Warriors will once again compete in the Class AAA, cluster 20. Included in that cluster are Concord, Culver Military, Goshen and Plymouth. All of those teams figure to be tough again this season, with Concord the pre-season favorite to defend its 1983 title. The Minutemen return quaterback Scott DeShone as well as several other starters. The first cluster contest is a Sept. 7 game at-Goshen. Other cluster games are Sept. 21 at Concord, Sept. 28 at home against Plymouth, and Oct. 12 at home against Culver Military.
