Choir school at Epwroth Forest
The Epworth Forest Choir School is being held this week at the Epworth Forest campgrounds on Lake Webster The celebration this year honors 30 years of choir school. 60 years of Epworth Forest and the 200 years of Methodism in America. Each evening at 7:30 p.m. except Wednesday, a vesper service will be conducted in the auditorium. Programs for the weekend include Friday’s Recital Night at 7:45 p.m and the annual

NIPSCO reports improvement HAMMOND - Northern Indiana Public Service company August 1 reported that audited figures indicate the utility’s 1984 second quarter net income was $33.3 million compared to $29.2 million for the same period in 1983 Earnings per share for the quarter were 38 cents this year compared to 35 cents last year. Revenues for the quarter were $453.4 million compared to $417.8 million in 1984. Revenues for the 12-month period ending June 30,1984, were $2.1 billion compared to $l.B billion for the same period in 1983. Net income for the period was $159.4 million compared to $96.6 million for the economical-ly-depressed similar period a year earlier. Edmund A. Schroer, NIPSCo chairman and chief executive officer. said, “The 12-month earnings reflect an improved return on equity of 12.7 percent but below our allowed rate of return of about 16 percent. “However, with an improved economy and company cost control programs continuing to contain the costs of operations, we believe we are building a solid financial foundation.” The Utility's financial statements continue to be qualified by its auditors, Arthur Andersen & Co., as they have been since June 30, 1981, because even though the Public Service Commission of Indiana has issued orders permitting full recovery of the Company’s Bailly Nuclear One investment, the Commission's September 28, 1982, order authorizing such recovery has been appealed to the Court of Appeals of Indiana.

43 percent increase for Bancorp
First Indiana Bancorp’s (First National Bank of Elkhart) report of earnings for the first six months of 1984 was released by Thomas L. Dusthimer, chairman and president. Record earnings performance, of $2,618,632 is the highlight of their first six months which is a 43 percent increase over last year. During this good earnings period they also increased their loan loss allowance to $3,176,000 which is up over $500,000 from the same time last year. Deposits were also at a record level for this time of year at $479,237,233. Total loans were also at an all time high for any reporting period at $309,424,802. The bank enjoyed growth in all areas of loans, the biggest increase coming in the commercial loan area. A combination of a strong economy and strong loan

The loan production office will be located in the heart of downtown in the newly renovated Boice Theatre The office will be equipped with an autbmatied teller machine which will enable the Warsaw customers to have access to the bank through their Ready Card. Construction on the previously announced Goshen office is moving along as scheduled, and they are hopeful that they will be able to move into the facility by December of this year. Drawings were made Monday night for the summer high school baseball tourney with Milford at Sidney Monday night. On Wednesday, Leesburg will meet Syracuse on the “Jacket’s” diamond and North Webster will host Silver Lake. 30 YEARS AGO, AUG. 12, 1954 Frank Anderson, Olney, 111., formerly of Milford, was calling on fiends here Tuesday. He and Mrs. Anderson have been vacationing at Johnson's Hotel at Lake Wawasee. He states that his
firm is moving their oil well drilling rig to Southern Indiana just north of and will begin drilling operations in the new field. The Andersons will remain residents of Olney. Members of the Milford Fire Department are making plans for their second annual chicken barbecue. Harold Kaiser, fire chief, said today. It will be given Sunday, 0ct..5, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Milford Community Building. Mrs. Emily Beer and children and Miss Willidean Bergdall are spending several days ,in Monroeville and school shopping at Fort Wayne. 50 YEARS AGO, AUG. 9. 1934 Mrs. Jesse Miller entertained a number of children Wednesday afternoon for her daughters Betty and Peggy, whose birthdays occurred Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 respectively. The guests report a good time as usual. The girls received some nice presents. Mrs. A.G. Tumbleson and grandson, John Bryan, of South Bend, are visiting for two weeks with his mother Mrs. William Burris and other relatives.
