4th children's play this weekend at Enchanted Hills
Enchanted Hills Playhouse is proud to announce the fourth children’s play of the 1984 season and the first winner of its original play festival: "Billie And Her Hillbillie Barnyard Band.” The play will be produced Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and the seating will be by general admission. The story has all the ingredients of an old-fashioned melodrama and centers around Billie and her struggle to save the farm from foreclosure. But the way she goes about saving the farm isn’t old-fashioned at all, in fact, it is quite unusual: she gathers the barnyard animals into a band and they sing in hopes of winning a $5,000 prize from the Grand 01’ Animal Opry. Trouble comes on the scene in the character of Cecil D. Weasel, the greedy banker who will stop at nothing to get the farm from Billie and her Pa. The situation looks desperate until Big Country Bob arrives from the Grand 01’ Animal Opry just in time to save the day. Bob Noll and Cassandra Wolfe, the two authors, will be coming from their homes in Cleveland, Ohio, to help celebrate the opening of this delightful musical. Besides being the author of this and over 40 other plays, Mr. Noll is the head writher for the Emmy award winning TV series, "Hickory Hideout.” He has also T I Patona Bay Boat Service West Shore Lake Tippecanoe 453-3970 1-7 Daily
won Emmys as the producer/writer for “Stagestruck” and “Hard Crime/Hard Time,” all three seen on WKYC-TV3 in Cleveland. He holds a Master’s degree from Ohio University and graduated Cum Laude from Kent State in 1973. Cassandra Wolfe got a start in theatre from Enchanted Hills Playhouse as an intern in the early ’7os under the direction of Robert Tolin. From there she graduated from Purdue and received her MFA from Ohio University. She now co-writes and stars in “Hickory Hideout.” David Pouge, the composer, wrote his first musical at the age of 16. Since then he has written eight musicals, two rock operas
1,000 youth to exhibit projects at the fair
By RONALD W. HOYT Extension Agent 4-H and Youth Fun! Action! Excitement! All of these will be important parts of the 68th annual Kosciusko County Fair, which will open on July 30 and'run through August 4. Fair week is sure to be a big hit with young and old alike with a wide variety of activities and exhibits — there’s sure to be something for everyone! The annual Gospel Sing, tractor pulls, fashion shows, kiddies day, senior citizens day, auto racing, demolition derby and country music are a few of the very special activities planned just for. you during the 1984 Kosciusko County Fair, but the extra special attractions for nealry 1,000 Kosciusko County youth will be the 4-H and Mini 4-H exhibits and activities. Mini 4-H Mini 4-H is designed especially for seven, eight and nine year olds to give them a small taste of what 4-H is all about. Mini 4-H fliers were distributed to young people this spring and project manuals were distributed by mail to those people interested. Mini 4-H members are not required to attend regular 4-H club meetings, but a Mini 4-H Day Camp was offered during June to give each Mini 4-Her the opportunity to meet other Mini 4-H members and participate in activities such as grafts, games, songs, a Mini 4-H meeting and get extra special help with their projects from volunteer Junior Leaders. In Kosciusko County, Mini 4-H members may participate in any of six different projects. These are: animal friends, fun things to do, collections, plants, cooking, and model building. The 4-H Junior Leaders were on hand during the Mini 4-H Day Camp to give instruction in the individual projects. Each Mini 4-H member will exhibit his or her completed project in the special Mini 4-H exhibit building, located 'west of the Women’s Building. Mini projects will be judged and given participation ribbons, and each completing Mini 4-H’er will receive a completion pin and an invitation to join 4-H or Mini 4-H next year.

and a ballet. Now a senior in the music program of Yale University, he hopes to become a theatrical composer in New York after graduation. “Billie And Her Hillbillie Barnyard Band” will be followed by “Treasure Island” on Saturday, Aug. 18. A suggestion A lot of motorists could afford to be a little mere superstitious - believe in signs, you know. In a bad way “I certainly hope I’m sick” said the unhappy man to his doctor. “I’d sure hate to feel like this if I’m well.”
In addition to our very special Mini 4-H exhibits during the fair, don’t miss our regular 4-H members’ exhibits to be located in the Shrine Building, the Conservation building and the metal shed. The 4-H project judging was completed the week before the fair, and all of these projects will be on display. In the Shrine Building, don’t miss our 4-H Home Economics and Crafts exhibits, as well as electricity, small engines, woodworking and insect exhibits. In the metal shed will be placed the 4-H garden, flowers and crops projects. The Conservation Building will be the site of all other 4-H general projects, including all conservation projects, photography, weather, personality, roller skating and forestry, to name just a few. Also judged during pre-fair judging was the 4-H Fashion Revue. On opening night of the fair, the public is invited to view the 4-H Fashion Revue following the 4-H Tenure Award Program and the coronation of the 4-H King and Queen. These programs will be held Monday, July 30, at the Warsaw Community High School auditorium. The presentation of the 4-H Tenure Awards will begin at 7 p.m., sponsored by the Kosciusko Counfy’’ Farm Bureau, Inc. In addition to the 4-H home economics, crafts, general and garden and crops projects, are the 4-H livestock exhibts. Nearly one half of our 4-H exhibits are livestock and are exhibited on the east side of the fairgrounds. The 4-H members exhibit many species of animals ranging from dogs and cats to the beef, sheep, swine, goats, rabbits, poultry, dairy, horse and pony. The livestock shows offer a different form of entertainment for the spectator and a keen sense of competition for the 4-H participant. The livestock shows actually begin with the 4-H Dog Show at 1 p.m., and the 4-H Cat Show at 4 p.m., on Sunday, July 29. The remainder of the livestock will come to the fair on Monday, July 30, and the other livestock shows get underway on Tuesday, July 31, with the 4-H Swine, Poultry and Rabbit Shows at 8:30 a.m. Also judged on Tuesday is the 4-H Sheep-Market Lamb Show at 6 p.m.

In the back are Steve Ensinger and Marcia Jochim; in the middle row are Brad Smith, Todd Smith, Jill Tully, and Paula Smith; and in the front row are Jon Tully and Jane Tully.
Wednesday, Aug. 1, is a very busy day in the Livestock departments with the 4-H Beef Show at 8 a.m., the 4-H Dairy Goat Show at 8:30 am., the 4-H Pony Show at 9 a.m., and the 4-H Sheep Breeding classes at 2 p.m. On Thursday, Aug. 2, the 4-H Dairy Show will start at 9 a.m., on Friday at 9 a.m., don’t miss the 4-H Horses at Halter. One of the highlights of the fair, the 1984 4-H Club Livestock Auction, will get underway on Friday morning at 10 a m. Friends of 4-H and local businesses show their continuing support of the 4-H program by purchasing the 4-H members’ project animals. On Saturday, Aug. 4, make sure you see the 4-H Horse Show which begins at 9 a.m. near the Horse Barn. Also during the fair are open class Livestock Shows for anyone to participate, and Livestock and Dairy Judging Contests on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. There are three categories in the judging contest which includes an Open Class in which anyone may participate. As you can see, there is something for everyone at the 1984 Kosciusko County Fair! Come on out and participate or observe, we’ve got something for you! WINS CABBAGE PATCH DOLL — Juanita Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Miller, 19183 CR 40 Goshen, was the winner of a Cabbage Patch Doll in a raffle conducted at Enchanted Hills Playhouse, Lake Wawasee, on July 7.
