to the Chicago area when her father received a promotion in the railroad business. It was when she moved away from the Webster area that she met her husband, Edwin Metcalf, in Momence, 111. In 1931, she and her husband returned to Zoa’s birthplace to care for her stepfather and she’s been here ever since. She has always loved the water. She lived on a lake in the area when she was bom and lived on the Kankakee River when she married. Even now, she resides on a lake in the Webster area. She said, “Oh I love the water — especially to fish and go on boat rides.” When I asked her the popular question as to her secret for living so long, she said she thought it was because her mother took such good care of her when she was growing-up and made her wear long underwear when it was cold. She also thought it had a lot to do with the fact that she still has most of her teeth and that she’s always been pretty healthy. Since Mrs. Metcalf turned 18, she’s been active in the church choir, until the past few years. She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Oswego. She likes most of the changes and advancements in the world. She said sometimes an ice cream truck goes by her house now and she often wishes they woulcbhave had those when she was growing up and her family didn’t have a freezer. Homemade ice cream and bananas are her favorite foods. Her happiest Christmas was
New minister has good comments on community
Rev. Robert Ellison preacher his first sermon to the United Methodist Church, Milford, congregation on June 3. Since that time he has had time to settle into the Milford community and his new home. Rev. Ellison and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Milford on June 12. They are former Gas City residents. “My first impression of Milford is very positive,” said Rev. Ellison. “We’re enjoying it. It’s a nice, clean, well-ordered little community,” he added. He’s begun involving himself in community organizations, such as the Kiwanis. He will become an official member this Friday morning at their regular meeting. Rev. Ellison doesn’t plan major changes for the church. His philosophy is to use change very sparingly, but added because he is a different minister, the whole
