Hubert Krull, boosters president, said the growth of the league and the increasing use of the diamonds made the additions necessary. The old wooden bleachers deteriorate rapidly, requiring replacement boards every year. The new bleachers allow more fans to watch, and will require little upkeep. The dugouts were built because the south field is getting more use as the league expands. Don Beer, booster vice president, explained that

players sitting on the old benches were in danger of being hit by wild throws to first or third base. Krull noted that the dugouts are equipped with corrugated metal roofs, which should wear better than the shingles on the older dugouts at the north field. The Youth League season culminates on July 27 with the boys’ championship game and awards night. In addition to the presentation of awards, new booster members and officers will be selected.

The public is invited to a mixed scramble on Friday, July 20, with tee times from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. A potluck dinner and awards ceremony will follow the golfing. A sign-up sheet has been posted in the clubhouse.

Zurcher to accept full-ride to Lindsey Wilson JC

Kim Zurcher, one of Wawasee’s most consistent perimeter shooters in 1983, will sign a national letter of intent Thursday, July 19, to attend Lindsey Wilson Junior College (Ky) in the fall. Zurcher’s signing comes as no surprise to many in the area. Although the lanky backcourtman was being courted by Taylor University and Grace College, Zurcher chose the junior college because they gave him “the best deal.” According to inside sources, Zurcher was leaning towards Taylor, until the junior college offered him a full-ride basketball scholorship. With the offer, Zurcher quickly changed his mind. Another reason why Zurcher decided to go south, instead of playing inside the Hoosier state, was because of coach Roger Snep. A former basketball player under Zurcher’s father, Vernon, Snep has coached some good teams at Adams Central and Centra] Noble before moving into the college ranks. Besides being well known as a coach in the area, Snep has also coached a couple of players who went on to play Big Ten basketball. Farmer Indiana University star Ted Kitcbel and his brother, John, played under Snep. **l feel Kim is vary fortunate in getting the chance to play there,” said Wawasee head coach John Wysong. “If be increases his intensity and aggressiveness, he could develop into a real fine college player.” In addition to Zurcher’s chances of playing at the junior
