Mrs. Treadway’s grandson Michael Black of Evansville arrived Monday to spend the week with his grandmother. 20 YEARS AGO, JULY 16,1964 Mr. and Mrs. Keith Whiteman and sons of Syracuse left Monday for New York, where they will visit the world’s fair. Mr. and Mrs. Lindemuth of Syracuse and Ms/ and Mrs. Marion Lindemuth of Churubusco returned home Saturday after a week’s vacation at Iron Bridge, Canada. / Miss Marcia Hursey, who teaches in Orange, Calif., is spending several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bates, Syracuse, Miss Hursey spent last week-end in Fort Wayne with her mother Mrs. Marjorie Hursey. Mrs. Opal Nolan, Syracuse, has returned from a week’s visit in Mobile, Ala., with her son Richard, Mrs.. Nolan and daughter. Mrs. Nolan made the trip both ways by plane. Bob Bookwood and Rick Talman, nephews of Mrs. Bill S. Betes, Syracuse have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Betes and son Bob, for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Talman of Elgin, 111., will come for the boys, Saturday, July 18. W YEARS AGO; JULY 16,1954 S^wjuse-Wawasee Post No 223 DrunSmd Bugle Corps., although being post in the state in codlpetition and besides that being short of buglers, won second in the class B competition, at Indianapolis Sunday evening. They had previously won second at the North Webster Mermaid Festival and at the Warsaw Centennial. Mrs. Alva Kettring and Mrs. Paul Bixler were weekend guests in the home of Mrs. Kettring’s four daughters in Indianapolis. Mrs. Kettring and Mrs. Bixler also attended a family reunion in Martinsville. Mrs. Paul Ruch of Milford accompanied Mrs. Kettring and Mrs. Bixler as far as Frankfort, Indiana, to visit her son, Wayne Briggs. Mrs. Maude Hoover and Miss Esther Hoover of Nappanee were recent guests at the Nelson Miles home. Mrs. Miles’ sister, Mrs. Eli JOINS FIRST NATIONAL BANK — Robert P. Norton has joined the staff of First National Bank of Warsaw as assistant vice president and marketing director. The addition was announced recently by Robert E. Boley, First National Bank executive vice president. Norton is a graduate of Purdue University with a master’s degree in agronomy and agricultural economics. He has spent most of Ms career in finance and related fields. Most recently, he was a Red Cross Center Chapter manager for two years in Fort Wayne. Prior to that position he was involved in mortgage lending, branching, marketing and regulatory matters as a savings and loan executive. A 1978 graduate of the Indiana University Graduate School of Savings and Loan, Norton is the author of a selected thesis on the duties and responsibilities of a corporate secretary. He is also a licensed real estate broker. Norton b married to Beverly, a piano teacher and quilting enthusiast. The couple has three teenage children and will be moving to Warsaw soon.

Thomas of Ithica, N.Y., is expected Friday evening to visit several days with Mr. and Mrs. Miles. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rapp are on a trip to visit their son, Joe, and family, in Denver, Colo. Mrs. Glenn Hoover and daughters, Judy, Sherry and Kathie of St. Petersburg, Fla., were guests of the Hilary L. Backman family last week. The Hoovers formerly of Syracuse are spending the summer in Battlecreek, Michigan. 50 YEARS AGO, JULY 19,1934 From reliable sources the Journal obtained the information that on or about August Ist, Bertram Whitehead will succeed Louis T. Heerman as postmaster in Syracuse. Mrs. Ida Jensen will succeed Mrs. Ward as assistant and Russell Hinderer will retain his position. Two federal engineers and one representing the state have visited the present Wawasee Fish Hatchery, this past week, surveyed the ground for the addition to be built to the fish hatchery and the camp of CCC workers who are to build this addition. Mrs. O’Haver and family and Mrs. Jesse Shock were dinner guests of Mrs. F. L. Gibson, Monday. Mrs. Lilly Hoopingarner spent Sunday with her brother Charles Wright, at Christian Lake, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wolf and family visited Mr. and Mrs. A. B. White in Mark Center, 0., Wednesday and Thursday last week. Mrs. George Hire came to Syracuse yesterday to visit her sister, Miss Irene Sprague, over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Darr and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Weimer and daughter spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Orley Plank, near Syracuse. Brown, son of Marlin J. and Mrilyn A. Brown of r 1 Box 616-A, Leesburg, has been awarded a Meritorious Mast while serving with the Ist Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, Calif. A Meritorious Mast is official recognition from a Marine’s commanding officer for superior individual performance.
