Pamela Brookins ir bride of John Kirkdorffer
A June 23 candlelight ceremony in the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, Nejy Paris, united Pamela Dawn Brookins and John Douglas Kirkdorffer. The bride is the daughter of Richard and Julia Brookins of 67742 CR 19, Goshen. The bridegroom is the son of Ron and Jeanette Kirkdorffer of 68906 CR 33, Goshen. Rev. Vernon Merkey, pastor the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, and Rev. Dale Linhart, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris, performed the double-ring ceremony before an altar decorated with two baskets of , blue carnations and white gladiolas, daisies and mums and a unity candle which the bride made herself. Nuptual music included "He Has Chosen You For Me”, “With This Ring” and "We’ve Only Just Begun”, sung by Mrs. Tom Lantz. The bridegroom's father sang “Sunrise Sunset” and the bride sang ‘You’re Always There", a song which she had written for the groom. The groom’s uncle, DavicL Smoker, served as organist; and his cousThr-Mws Chris Kirkdorffer. played the piano. . The bride was given in marriage by her father before 290 guests She wore a gown constructed of white organza over taffeta with Chantilly lace. It featured a high Victorian neckline with an off the shoulder look accented by a ruffle. The fitted waist was accented by a rose and satin ribbons. The long mutton sleeves were of matching lace, and a full skirt was accented by rows of Chantilly lace edging which flowed into a chapel-length train She wore her grandmother s pearl necklace. Kiwanis Club sees Lombardi film Friday The Milford Kiwanis Club met Friday and viewed Vince Lombardi's film. "The Second Effort ” Vince Lombardi, past coach of the Green Bay Packers, expresses his views in the film. He said, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” He added, one should put his religion first, family second and his job third The film is the property of CTB and was presented by John Replogle The club's “Christmas in July” meeting will be July 27* The club plans on helping 12 to 15 families. Bill Little and Charlie Spillman will be celebrating birthdays before the next meeting. Bob Groves led the group in singing “Happy Birthday." Cub fan. Ray Sorense, was the greeter for the day. Bowen Center to hold annual meeting July 9 The Bowen Center Clients’ Rights and Welfare Committee will hold its annual public meeting at 7 p m . July 9 at the Center’s 850 N Harrison St., Warsaw location. Committee chairwoman Jeanne E. Jones states, "We are inviting the public to attend the annual meeting of the Clients’ Rights and Welfare Committee. This committee serves as an advocacy function for Bowen Center clients.”

Her veil was a waltz-length, and was accented with pearls and sequins. She carried a cascade bouquet of white roses and stephenotis with blue carnations and blue silk baby’s breath. Miss Diane Brookins, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. She wore a floor-length Victorian styled gown of light blue organza over taffeta. The gown featured long sleeves and an off the shoulder look accented with a ruffle. Belted with a light blue sash, the dress was accented by a ruffled hem which pulled up in the back to form a bustle. She wore a spring of blue and white flowers in her hair and carried a white fan with blue and white flowers. Miss Teresa Reed, Miss Lisa Brookins, sister of the bride, and Miss Jacki Yoder, cousin of the bride, served as bridesmaids. They wore gowns similar to the maid of honor. Master Gavin Brookins, cousin of the bride, served as ringbearer, and Miss Haley Lantz, was flowergirl. Best man was Tony Smoker, cousin of the groom Serving as groomsmen were Scott Fox, and Jim and Rob Kirkdorffer, brothers of the groom. Ushers were Jay Warstler, Scot Honeycutt, Mike Riley and Allen Eash. The bride and groom’s mothers selected blue street-length dresses for the occasion. They wore corsages of white sweetheart roses and white carnations. The reception was held in the church basement. A fruit buffet was arranged around a fountain serving punch. Traditional wedding cake and blue punch also were served Blue and white flowers, bells and streamers decorated the basement. Servers were Mrs. Jim Kirkdorffer and Mrs. Rob Kirkdorffer, sisters-in-law of the groom, and Rhonda and Judi Kirkdorffer, sisters of the birde. Also serving were Miss Debbie Mundy. Miss Tammy Snider and Mrs. Denise Hurst. Special helpers were Miss Heidi Snider, Miss Holly Snider and Miss Jeanie Yoder. Kitchen help in-
eluded Mrs. Richard Snider, Mrs. James Snider and Mrs. Delbert Miller. Following a two week trip to the Smokey Mountains and parts of Florida, the couple will reside at P.O. Box 420, New Paris. The bride is a 1983 graduate of Fairfield High School and Wawasee Vocational Beauty Schodl. She is employed at US Male 11, Goshen, as a hair designer. The bridegroom is a 1983 graudate of Fairfield High School, he is employed by Rockwood, Inc., as a woodworker. Drugs topic for Kiwonions Steve Wagner, a registered nurse in the psychiatric section and part-time lecturer at Oaklawn on addiction treatment and psychiatry was the guest speaker at the Wawasee Kiwanis meeting Saturday morning, June 30. Alcohol is the most abused drug in the world, stated Wagner adding, when you go to the high school and ask wliat drug is the most used it is not “pot” or speed, it is alcohol. He added alcoholism is a disease that is chronic, progressive and fatal. The only way for it not to be fatal is to stop drinking; Wagner spoke highly of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and related Alonons for families. He added unless you have been there yourself you cannot help just by being a friend, but it is the fact that you admit you are an alcoholic and that others admit it also, yet you see how someone else is coping HE also spoke about the dangers of using the drug, valium, for long periods of time and of how marijuana and stronger drugs affect the brain and they too can kill. In closing Wagner stated, “Everyone is effected by alcoholism because millions and millions of people drink. But it you see someone who is drunk, try to take them to a hospital or treatment center. You may be the one to save a life! ” Alzheimer's disease to be Goodwill topic Anna Snyder of the Hospice program will be speaking on Alzheimer’s disease at the July 11 meeting of the Goodwill Home Economics Club. The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. in the House of Friendship. Mary Mock will be the hostess. Steve Deck interning When Bloomington graduate student Michael Kent Moon* receives the master of public affairs degree, with a concentration in health .systems administration, from Indiana University in 1985, he will have more than just a textbook knowledge of his chosen professsion. Moore, like many other students in the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs, also will have practical experience through the school’s internship program. In all there are 61 SPEA health administration students on internships this summer. An area student in the program is Steven P. Deck, 124 North Shore Drive, Syracuse. He is serving his internship at the Holiday Inn of Goshen.

Elizabeth Daily marries Barton Bowser in June
Elizabeth Ann Daily, Midland, Mich., and Barton B. Bowser, North Webster, were married June 9 at the First United Methodist Church, Midland. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Daily of Midland. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Bowser of North Webster. Dr. Carl Price performed the ceremony. Music was provided by Laurel Rice, vocalist, and Sally Stebleton, organist. Toni Thrune was matron of honor and Susan Gibson served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Bobbi Doll, sister of the bridegroom; Susan Maley; Sonja Nordgen; Barbara Bowser, sister of the bridegroom; and Sharon Fleming. Cie-Cie Thrune was flower girl. Brent Prosser served as best man. Groomsmen were Doug Bowser, Jr., brother of the bridegroom; Larry Stoller; Jeff Rayner; Mike Brannock; and Bob and Bill Daily, Jr., brother’s of the bride. During this week-long residential program, participants worked intensely with members of the Goshen College piano faculty as well as guest artists John Owings and Jane Magrath. Owings is tfmuric at Indiana University in South Bend. Magrath teadies applied piano at the University of Oklahoma School of Music.
Couple wed in outdoor ceremony at Winona Lake's Billy Sunday area
Teenß Young. Warsaw, became the bride of Paul Nichols, Warsaw, in an outdoor ceremony on Saturday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Leon Hoffer, Warsaw Bible Church, officiated at the ceremony in the presence of approximately 225 guests at the Billy Sunday hillside area overlooking Winona Lake. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Young of Warsaw and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miller Nichols of Palestine, formerly of Winona Lake. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an ivory gown of sheer polyester, fully lined in acetate taffeta with nylon acetate lace trim. The basque waistline was lace detailed and the full gown was supported by a hoop. Her veil was fingertip-length with a blusher and edged with miniature daisies. She carried brightly colored spring flowers of purple, yellow and tangerine with ivory. Darla Johnson, maid of honor, wore a street-length spring multicolor print dress with an ivory background, with full sleeves. The waist was secured with a bow Manchester students on dean's list Ninety-seven Manchester College students have been named to the Spring Term Dean’s List, said College Academic Dean Robert S. Keller. Students named to the dean’s list have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours. The honor places the students in the upper 10 percent of their respective college class Dean Keller said. Manchester College’s spring dean’s list is composed of 31 . freshmen, 21 sophomores, 21 juniors and 24 seniors. Thirty-two students completed the semester with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Friendship House in Winona Lake followed the ceremony. The spring outdoor theme of the wedding was carried through to the reception in decorations in the garden room. The bride is a graduate of Warsaw Community High School and is employed at the Think Young Styling Center in Warsaw. The bridegroom is employed by Moore and Moore Excavating in Syracuse. Following a two week wedding trip to Florida, the couple is residing at r 7 box 139, Green Acres Mobile Home Park, Warsaw.
