Eleanor Richards dead after having heart attack at accident
Mrs. Ernest (Ruby Eleanor) Richards, 78, 213 High St., Syracuse, died while enroute to Goshen Hospital at 8:45 p.m. Friday, June 22. Mrs. Richards suffered an apparent heart attack while waiting in traffic at a personal injury accident on Elkhart-Kosciusko County Line Road. The accident occured at 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of CR 750E and the Elkhart-Kosciusko County Line Road and involved an auto driven by Larry Wilson, 34, r 1 Cromwell. Wilson suffered facial lacerations, a possible rib and right arm fracture. He was transported to Goshen Hospital. Born in Ligonier Aug. 7, 1905,

Mrs. Richards was the daughter of Ivan and Cleo (Blue) Moats. Her first marriage was to Chester Workman in Goshen, and he died in 1941. In Fort Wayne she later married Theodore Vorhis, who also preceded her in death. Her third marriage was to Ernest Richards, who survives. She was a member of the Richville United Methodist Church. A homemaker, she was a charter member of the Hex Grange, near Syracuse, and the Hex Rural Home Ec Club. Additional survivors are: two sons, Richard and Max Workman, of Syracuse; one daughter, Bonnie Workman of Syracuse; eight grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday in the On* Funeral Home, Ligonier, with burial in the Syracuse Cemetery. Alma Hochstetler Mrs. Raymond S. (Alma B.) Hochstetler, 82, r 1 Milford, died at the RN Nursing Home, Bremen, where she had been a patient for one week. She had been ill one year. A housewife and lifetime resident of the area, she was born Oct. 20, 1901, in Foraker, a daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Pletcher) Culp, she married Raymond S. Hochstetler March 12, 1927, in Nappanee. He survives. Also surviving are: a daughter; four sons; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Hochstetler, two

Opal Miller Monsanto Retiree Opal (“Babe”) Miller, 65, of the Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford, died at the nursing home, at 6:20 p.m. Friday, June 22. She had been a resident of the nursing home for approximately six months. Born in North Webster on Feb. 25,1919, she was the daughter of Jess and Cora E. (Grindle) Kuhn. She married Ernest W. Miller, who died in 1944 during World War II when he was lost at sea. She was a lifetime resident of the North Webster-Syracuse area and a member of the VFW and American Legion in Syraucuse.

Later he was transferred to South Bend and on Saturday morning at 2 a.m., he was transferred to Indianapolis to St. Vincent’s Hospital. Losee, 27 yean old, underwent heart surgery in Indianapolis after he suffered a heart attack. He is steadily improving, but still in critical condition. His wife is the former Susan Speicher. Marie Carwile Farmer Syracuse Resident Marie Carwile, 89, formerly of 112 West Brooklyn St., Syracuse, died in Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford, at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, June 26. Syracuse EMS Harold Cole, Sr., 59,525 S. Main St., Syracuse, was injured at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, June 21, when a dog ran out in front of his bicycle and the two collided. The Syracuse Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene but the patient advised he would see the doctor on his own. Gladys Bobinger, 56; 5152 Highview Dr., Cincinnati, Ohio, suffered minor injuries in an accident at SR 13 and Grandview Dr., Syracuse, at 3:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 21. She was advised to be checked by a physician. The EMS transported Timothy Beausir, 27,26851 Sturdy Oak Dr., Elkhart, to Goshen Hospital at 1:48 p.m. on Friday, June 22. Syracuse EMS transported two of the six persons injured in a four-vehicle mishap at 6:49 p.m. Friday, June 22, at US 6 and Sr 13. Transported to Goshen Hospital were Shelly Clipfell, 16, P.O. Box 232 Colon, Mich., with abrasions and lacerations to both legs; and Pat Hagedorn, 34, 317 Wards Court, Mishawaka, with lacerations to the right leg and a possible fractured right forearm. Lori Cory, 36, r 1 box 226, Syracuse, was treated by the EMS after she fell. She came to the station at 3:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, and friends stated they would take her to the hospital. Tony Powell, 20, Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital following an accident at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, June 24, at Chinese Gardens.

Nelson had been fishing with Jim Collins, also of Bristol, at Syracuse. After experiencing difficulty breathing, Nelson declined tp be transported to the Goshen Hospital by a Syracuse ambulance. En route home his condition worsened and Collins stopped at the Milford Fire Station for help. When he realized no on was there, he continued on to Goshen Hospital. Ralph H. Starry Eyed Lane, Cromwell, were taken to Goshen Hospital for minor injuries following a two-vehicle mishap on CR 33 in Benton Township, Elkhart County, at 2:15 p.m, Friday, June 22. They were later released. Robert G, Farber, 26, r 5 Syracuse, Sfriver of a 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier, was also involved in the mishap but not injured. Elkhart County Sheriff’s Ptl. Randy Cripe reported both vehicles were northbound on CR 33 and the collision occurred Wiring causes car fire, no major damage A short in the wiring caused a car fire in a car owned by Dennis Darr. The incident occurred at the comer of Huntington and Medusa Streets, Syracuse, at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26. There was no major damage to the vehicle. Fire officials reported when they arrived some of the wiring had burned but there was no fire. Casey apologizes CIA Director William J. The son of Alexander and Flora Runyan, he was born Dec. 24, 1892, in Sullivan, 111. He married Mary Runyan June 28, 1921. She died in 1983. A member so the North Webster United Methodist Church, he had resided in North Webster since 1978, coming from North Vernon. He was a former employee of the N.Y. Central Railroad and also formerly owned and operated the Laymore Hatchery in North Vernon. A member of the Masonic Lodge, No. 59 and the Order of the Eastern Star, No. 183 in North Vernon, he also was a former city councilman there and a member of the Lions Club. The funeral was held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the North Webster United Methodist Church with burial in the Washington-Union Cemetery, Pierceton.

Grass fire extinguished Syracuse Fire Department was called to a grass fire at 1:36 p.m. Sunday, June 24, in the 1200 block of Sycamore Street, Syracuse; Bob Stoleker, a guard at Syracuse Rubber Products, reported it to officials. Larry Weaver, first assistant fire chief, went to check on the fire and when he arrived the dead grass was burning and had burned about one-half acre.
