Sumrail to be at Christian Center
Dr. Lester Sumrall, president of LESEA Ministries, a worldwide evangelistic organization headquarted in South Bend, will be at the Northern Lakes Christian Center (formerly the Lancelot Lounge) in North Webster, Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. Lester Sumrail Bom in New Orleans, Lester Sumrall showed early the resourcefulness which has characterized his life and activity in the ministry of the gospel. Much of his schooling was at Laurel, Miss, and Mobile, Ala. As a boy he was strongly influenced in religion by his mother, a devout woman who never missed attending the neighborhood church. He lived the normal life of boys his age, attended church but did not pay much attention to religion . . . until his 17th year. At the age of 16 he was afflicted with tuberculosis inboth lungs and for six months lay in bed. One day in the fall of 1930 the doctor declared he would die shortly. That night, Lester saw a vision of an open casket on one side of his bed and an open Bible on the other. A voice said to him. “You must choose.” He responded that he would choose the Bible. Almost immediately he fell asleep and when he awakened in the morning he was perfectly well. Sumrall attributes this healing to the miraculous power of God and feels this was God’s divine call upon his life. Three weeks later Lester Sumrall left his home in Panama City, Fla., to begin his preaching ministry. His first sermon was in a country school 50 miles from home. At the age of 19 he was selected as pastor by a large interdenominational church at Green Forest, Ark Later he brought this church into his denomination. He was ordained to the ministry in 1932. In 1934 Sumrall began a worldwide mission of evangelism, traveling all over the world During one of his South American trips, he- met a Canadian missionary, Louise Layman, in Argentina, and married her a year later at her home in Ontario Today Dr Sumrall's schedule is busier than ever. He is editor of “World Harvest Magazine," the president and founder of WHME Radio and builder of the World Harvest Bible College erected for the purpose of blessing and inspiring young men and women and preparing them for a real work of God. He is also the author of 50 books and hundreds of his teachings are on video and audio cassettes for distribution. Sumrail and his wife reside in South Bend and have three sons. Frank. Stephen and Peter All three are in fulltime ministry with LESEA

Dr. Sumrall’s teaching is syndicated nationwide through the PTL and Trinity Satellite and cable systems across America. Dr. Sumrall has preached in over 100 nations of the world and raised up several independent churches across the world. In December, 1983, he licensed Thorbe and Karen Mitchell of Lake Tippicanoe for the ministry. On New Year’s Eve they opened the Northern Lakes Christian Center in North Webster, featuring teaching seminars conducted by various Christian teachers and convention speakers in great demand across the country via satellite receiver projected on a large 10-foot screen. Thorbe Mitchell, formerly a fighter pilot with the Indiana National Guard, has been Dr. Sumrall’s chief pilot since 1982, and has seen several such churches raised up around the country since then. He felt led to start one in this area. The Northern Lakes Christian Center is open to the general public on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for teaching and for Sunday services at 10 a m King-sized beds were utilized in Biblical times Did you know king-sized beds were in use thousands of years ago*’ In Deuteronomy 3:11, Og the king of Bashon was a giant; and “Behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron . . . nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of man.” Since a cubit is 18 inches, then this bed was 134 feet long and 6 feet wide

Answered prayer
By Marietta Fuller
For answered prayer, we must first become a part of God’s family. “But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (Jn. 1:12) God hears only the prayers of his children. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (Jas. 5:16) We need to get rid of our sins through the blood of our saviour so that we might have right standing with God. “If I regard iniquity (sin) in my heart, the Lord will not hear me in prayer.” (Ps. 66:18) If you do not forgive (others), neither will your father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” (Mark 11:25, 26) Here is a condition that the individual must meet if prayer is heard and answered. “Be filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18,20), for then we shall be praying in the Spirit.” “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities; for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us . . .” (Rom. 8:26) Ask in order to receive. “Ask. and it shall be given you.” (Luke 11:9,10) “Do not ask amiss on your own lusts and pleasures.” (Jas. 4:3) Ask in the name of the Lord. “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (Jn. 14:13) Keep His commandments. “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” (1 Jn. 3:22) “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Heb. 11:6) so pray believing. “And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” (Mt. 21:22) Pray with two or more believers. “. . . if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 18:19) You do not have to be together to pray; just pass the word along. If you abide in me ( indwelling Holy Spirit) and my words (of the Bible) abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (Jn. 15:7) “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (Ps. 37:4) We delight in the Lord by praying, reading, hearing, and obeying His words of the Bible! Do God’s will. “Now we know that God heareth not sinners; but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth His will, him He heareth.” (Jn. 9:31) We need to pray in God’s will according to passages all throughout the Bible. “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us. And if we

ti mr~Hi-<r I MIRACLES COME FROM FAITH THAT THE LORD CAN CAUSE THEM word “miracle” is one that we use quite commonly in our daily lives; generally to describe any unlikely event, such as the finding of a long-lost object. Occasionally this can seem to border on the supernatural, as in the seemingly impossible recovery of someone considered terminally ill. However, those who observe their faith would deem such as occurrence quite natural. The Bible is filled with many spectacular episodes in both the Old and New Testaments; notably Moses parting the Red Sea and Jesus feeding the multitude with only twc fishes and five loaves of bread. While you may not be privileged to experience any such events in your lifetime, you will undoubtedly receive many blessings when they are needed most, by attending your House of Worship and demonstrating your faith in God; the source of all miracles that ever occurred in the history of the world. !GGiO>dCOGCOOOOOOCOeOOOSOOiGiQCO9iOOOOOOCOeCGOOCC Getting the most from church “If you should ask me, ‘How can I get the most out of church?’ ” was borrowed from the North Webster Church of God newsletter and may provide some guidelines for everyone: 1. Begin Sunday morning worship on Saturday night. 2. Get to church on time, or even a little early. 3. Come to church in a receptive, not critical or negative mood. 4. Begin with the organ prelude, and use each part of the service to prepare yourself for an encounter with God. 5. Participate in the worship, don’t be a spectator. 6. Go to church fully expecting to find God there.

Julie’s health... remains very good ... I looked out the window one day to find Julie sitting in her stroller sucking on one of her little friends’ whistles ... these children carry so many diseases. A Multi-Million Dollar Aid Program . . . funded by the Southern Baptists . . . will include new deep wells, community health program, earthen dams for irrigation, reforestation in 1985 . . . this will be a tremendous help to out people’s physical needs. Mormon Church founding The founding of the Mormon Church took place on April 6, 1830. The official version of its beginning is that John The Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith Jr. and Oliver Cowdery while they were translating “The Book of Mormon’’ and made them priests. This was in May, 1829. Less than a year later the apostles Peter, James and John are supposed to have appeared to them. They began to preach and baptize and, because six were needed to be recognized under the law as a church, they joined with Hyrum Smith, Samuel Smith, Peter Whitmer Jr. and David Whitmer, in 1830, and officially founded the church. In 1834 the church became known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The first missionaries were sent out and in 1842, twenty ships were chartered to bring converts to this country from England. After troubles in Ohio, Illinois and Missouri, the majority of Mormons migrated to the Great Salt Lake Valley in Utah, a move famous in church history. There they have remained. The Mormon Church choir is now famous nationally and Utah is connected in the public mind with the Mormon church, whose members now number 3,000,000. There is also an offshoot church with several hundred thousand members. “...go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” — Mark 16:15

The Power of the Holy Spirit ... we need his power and guidence to effectively accomplish the work of the Lord here. Mm B BB | GUEST SPEAKER — Charles W. Ferris of Minneapolis, Minn., will be the guest speaker at 8 p.m., Monday. April 30,in the Christian Science Church, Goshen. The subject of his lecture is “How God’s promises are fulfilled.” Ferris says that the Bible is loaded with promises that our hopes will be fulfilled, and that these promises cover every area of human life. The lecturer points to the varies Biblical promises of courage, comfort, companionship and world peace. But he devotes a substantial segment of the hour-long lecture to deeper discussions of two noteable promises running throughout the scriptures: God supplying our needs, and the healing of our diseases. Out of the many years in the public healing practice of Christian Science. Ferris shows how prayer depenably removes obstacles to healing. At the same time, he notes, experiences of Christian healing deepens trust in God's Cbre. “Our conviction that God is all-lovning, that he cares of us is everywhere," he says. A graduate of the University of Chicago, Ferris served as a Chaplain's assistant in the Armed Forces before choosing to devote his time to helping others through prayer. He has traveled throughout the United States and abroad as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. He will be introduced by Mrs. Curt Caden, Goshen.
