APRIL 10.1074 The uptown Syracuse parking meters continue to be a burning issue with uptown merchants as the continuing debate spilled over into a regular meeting Monday noon in the Palace of Sweets. Syracuse police are attempting to clean the local area of junk cars and asking full co-operation of persons with such cars. Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Beck of r 1 Syracuse will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house for friends and relatives on Sunday, April 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at their Lake Lawn Land home. , The streakers finally got to Syracuse when two males with paper sacks over their heads made their entrance Saturday night at Merrill’s lounge at the north edge of Syracuse, and streaked through the establishment to the back door and out again.’ Chet Elder of Elder Realty tells

APRIL 9.1964 Sue Smith, of Syracuse placed second in the annual elementary spelling contest held in Warsaw Saturday. James Sloan, a Madison school (Warsaw) sixth grader won the contest. The Syracuse town board members in a meeting Tuesday night, April 7, approved the purchase of a new police car for the town and instructed Robert Reed, town attorney, to ready the necessary bid requirements for publication.

Two Syracuse women, Mrs. Blanche Bates and Mrs. Mabie Walton are among the 12 Republican women from Kosciusko County who left Tuesday evening for a four-day tour of Washington D.C. They left by train from Warsaw. Mrs. Lillian Brown of 106 E. Boston street, Syracuse, returned to her home this week after a short stay in Florida. She went to Pompano Beach, Fla., on March 26. Mrs. Brown returned to Syracuse with Mrs. C. C. Mason, also of Syracuse. Sally Jo Fosbrink and her sister, Mrs. David L. West and Mr. West, all students at Purdue university, spent the Easter vacation with their parents Dr. and Mrs. E. L. Fosbrink, Syracuse and Mrs. Allen West of Brown county. Rev. and Mrs. Carl Satre have returned to Syracuse from a two day visit in Toledo, O. with Rev. Satre’s brother, Rev. and Mrs. W. Carl Satre. 30 YEARS AGO. APRIL 9,1954 Syracuse FFA Chapter was awarded first place in the State FFA farm safety contest for outstanding safety activities for the 1953-54 year. Syracuse also won the safety award for District 11. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Niles and daughter Kristie Kay, and Mrs. Ray Wolferman spent a week in South Carolina with Seaman and Mrs. Kenneth Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Culler and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Fackler and son Donald, were Sunday visitors of Maude De Vault. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Spry and son. Roberta Bush to graduate from Goshen

Roberta G. Busch of Syracuse will be awarded a bachelor of science degree at Goshen College in April with a major in nursing. The daughter of Robert and Betty Busch, r 5 box 259, Busch Estates, she is a 1980 graduate of Wawasee High School and will participate in the college’s 86th commencement April 15 at 3 p.m. The 237 Goshen College graduates and their families will hear a commencement address by Laura Bornholdt, vice president for eduation at Lilly Endowmwnt, Inc., of Indianapolis. Commencement weekend activities include departmental receptions, a nurses’ pinning ceremony, a senior art exhibit, a graduating class program and a Sunday baccalaureate service with a message by GC President J. Lawrence Burkholder. President Burkholder’s 13 years as a top administrator at the college

will end with his retirement June 30. Goshen College offers a bachelor of arts degree in 33 fields and the bachelor of science in nursing . Its 1,000 students come from 35 states, Canada and 31 foreign countries. The college is owned and operated by the Mennonite Church.
