The celebration of spring and rebirth has begun in all area churches and will continue throughout this week and next, culminating with special Easter services on Sunday, April 22. Area churches have activities scheduled for this time and residents are encouraged to attend the services of their choice. All Saints Episcopal On Palm Sunday, congregants of this Wawasee church welcome Bishop William Sheridan at the 9 a.m. worship service. Bishop Sheridan makes his annual visitation at this time. On the following Tuesday and Thursday Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 8 a m. both days. On Maundy Thursday, the washing of feet and the Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. On Good Friday, a liturgy will be held at 10 am., and at 7 p.m. the Stations of the Cross. The lighting of the Paschal Candle will take place on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Easter Service will be held at 9 a m. on April 22. Grace Bible Church Congregants of this Syracuse church will follow their regular worship schedule. Grace Lutheran Church A community worship service will be hosted by Grace Lutheran Church, Syracuse, at 1 p.m. on Good Friday afternoon. On Blaster Sunday there will be a regular Sunday service at 9:15 a m. A breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. SL Andrew’s United Methodist Sacrament and Holy Communion will be observed on Maunday Thursday evening at 7 St. Andrew’s congregants will join other Syracuse worshippers for a community service at 1 p.m. on Good Friday afternoon at Grace Lutheran Church St Andrew's will host a community sunrise service Easter Sunday morning at 6:30 a m A breakfast will follow St. Martin de Porres On Palm Sunday there will be a procession with palms at all masses On Maundy Thursday evening at 7:30 there will be the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, with foot washing and the Transfer of the Eucharist. . “Way of the Cross.” On Easter Sunday the Vigil of the Lord’s Resurrection will be held, including an Easter Fire and candle lighting; also, a reception of new members. Masses Easter will be at 9 and 10:45 am., a variation of the regular schedule. Church of the Brethren Syracuse Church of the Brethren worshippers will join congregants at St. Maretin De Porres for a Union Lenten service on April 8 at 7 p.m. There will be a Palm Sunday service at the Church of the Brethren at 10:30 a.m.. with the Good Friday community service being held at Grace Lutheran Church. They will parade down the aisle of the sanctuary and be throwing palms and coats for Jesus. On Maundy Thursday, there will be a special rite for the communion service A live scene of “The “Last Supper" will be portrayed. Also, a live scene in the Garden of Gethsemane. On Saturday night, April 21, from 11 p.m. to 12 midnight, an Easter Vigil will be held at Calvary Church. The vigil will climax as the people gather out-of-doors and wait outside the darkened church to listen in silence to the tolling bells. Following a simple ritual, worshippers will enter the barren sanctuary to relive the events of Holy Week through drama, multimedia and music.

Clunette United Methodist The Clunette United Methodist Church will hold an Easter Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. Quaker Haven Quaker Haven Church, Dewart Lake, will follow its regular worship schedule during Holy Week. “John Huss” will be shown Sunday evening, April 15, at 7 p.m. in the Syracuse Church of the Brethren. The public is invited to attend. This film is a part of a series of five films to be shown during 1984 as a part of the Syracuse Church of God and the Syracuse Church of the Brethren cooperative effort to bring to the Syracuse Community, the lives of some of the great men of God, in church history. “John Huss” is a film about a Bohemian priest and scholar, a man who believed that salvation comes by faith in Jesus Christ and the Word of God is our final authority. Friday service at the Christian Church at 7:30 p.m. On April 22 (Easter) there will be a sunrise service at 7 a.m., breakfast at 7:45 a.m. and an Easter Egg Hunt at 9:15 a.m. for children through the sixth grade. Sunday School will be at 9:15 a.m. for seventh grade through adult. A choir cantata will take place at 10:30 a.m.
“John Wycliff,” “John Wesley,” “First Fruits,” and “Where Luther Walked. ” Lura Schrock is speaker Lura Shelter Schrock, Goshen, was the speaker for the April meeting of Milford Christian Fellowship. She spoke on “Delivered From 15 Years of Occultism.” The Goshen woman is a world traveler and has visited the Holy Land many times as well as other countries and islands. The Milford Christian Fellowship is not affiliated with any organized church and enables the people of Milford and surrounding areas to share experiences of speakers in their Christian walk. The meetings are designed for the whole family and held in the Milford Fire Station.
