H I F K fri * *** r* ." 111 ■ 1 IMPACT ON SCHOOLS - Don Arnold, superintendent of the Lakeland Community School Corporation, presented the program at the Wawasee Kiwanis meeting Saturday. March 17. He gave a survey of the legislation passed by the general assembly and the impact it would have on schools, particularly Lakeland. Compentency testing is one of these that will require a remedial program in the summer time for those who do not pass. Another important bill was called the prime time bill, although it is voluntary pressure applied to the school board that will make it practically mandatory. It starts with grade one in the fall and is a pupil ratio of 18 to one and if it is meet, school wide, the corporation received 118,000 for each new teacher who is hired. This creates a question of enough rooms. In the local system Milford and North Webster have the rooms available and Syracuse does not. During the business meeting Larry Michael and Greg Long were taken into the club as new members with the installation conducted by Terry McDonald. The chicken barbecue is set for April 28. Shown in the photo are Don Denny, president; Arnold, and Ken Bowton. program chairman.
