Gertie Gregory Member Os Lighthouse Church Mrs. Gertie E. Gregory, 74, Sidney, died at the home of her son, Bobby Gregory, Pierceton, at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3. She had suffered heart failure. Born June 11, 1909 in Coopersville, Ky., she was the daughter of Perry and Minnie Walls, and had lived in Sidney 45 years. She married James Gregory June 11,1926. He died in 1983. She was retired and was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Warsaw. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Wolfe, Sidney; five sons, Clyde Gregory, Tucson, Ariz., Edward Gregory, Almonte Springs, Fla., Robert Gregory, Marion, 111., Roy Gregory, Warsaw, and Bobby Gregory, Pierceton; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three

Services were held Tuesday at the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, with burial in the Hillcrest cemetery, Pierceton. Robert Yaggi Gideon Society Member Robert A. Yaggi, 73,501 Carter Road, Goshen, died near Vero Beach, Fla., at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, Mabch 11, in an accident that left his wife, Elsa in intensive care at Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach. He died at the scene of the two car accident which occurred when he turned his northbound 1982 Oldsmobile in front of a southbound vehicle on CR 505. three miles west of Vero Beach where the Yaggis were vacationing.

A native of Sera ton, Pa., he was born May 18,1910, and was married in October 1935 to Elsa Nickisch. They moved from Philadelphia to Goshen. A resident of Goshen since 1962, Yaggie was an active member of several organizations and served on two boards of directors. He also was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and the Gideon Society. The World War H Navy Veteran retired in 1975 as manager of the direct mail division of Sorg Products which had become a division of Erving Paper Mills. Yaggie had held several managerial positions with the firm from 1932 to his retirement in 1975. Surviving are: Mrs. Yaggie; a daughter, Mrs. James (Karen) Tranter, Syracuse; two sons; and nine grandcildren. Also surviving are several brothers and sisters. General Hospital, Elkhart, at 10:34 a.m Monday, March 12, of injuries suffered in a Feb. 20, 1983, head-on collision in Syracuse. She was a passenger in an auto driven by Kenneth Pletcher, 44, r 2 Syracuse, when it was struck head-on by a Corvette driven by David Heath, 43, r 1 Leesburg, on SR 13 near the Pickwick Road. Pletcher and his mother, Florence Pletcher, 76, r 2, Syracuse, were killed. Heath was charged with causing death while intoxicated. In December, he was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court to five years each for the deaths of Kenneth and Florence Pletcher. He will serve the two terms concurrently, making his sentence five years, with the posibility of probation in two and one-half years. Marchand had filed a $900,000 lawsuit against Heath. The suit is seeking damages for injuries suffered in the collision. The civil suit is pending in superior court. The daughter of George and

He is in room 304 in Goshen Hospital and reportedly progressing as well as can be expected. He is not allowed visitors at this time. AT HOME Barbara Strickler, Syracuse, returned home Sunday, March 11, from Elkhart Hospital after spending four days there with the flu. She is now recuperating at home. UNDERGOES SURGERY Syracuse Police Chief Warren Swartz is home and reportedly doing well following surgery Friday, March 9, in South Bend St. Joseph Hospital. The surgery was necessary because of a stroke suffered by Swartz on January 14. Swartz entered the hospital on Wednesday, March 7, and returned home Sunday, March 11. It is expected he will return to active police duty in a week to 10 days. Syracuse EMS Mike Smith, 31, 200 E. Boston St., Syracuse, and Debbie Smith, 23, same address, were transported to Goshen Hospital by Syracuse Emergency Medical Service following a one-vehicle accident at 1:32 a.m. Saturday morning March 10, at Boston and Huntington Street. Both received minor injuries. Leona Marsh, 86, 45 N. Shore Dr., Syracuse, was transported to Goshen Hospital at 5:40 a.m. Saturday, March 10, after becoming ill. Robert Searfoss, 67, r 1 box 10 Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital at 11:04 a.m. Saturday, March 10, after becoming ill at a residence on Brooklyn Street. Clayton Maxwell, 70, r 1 Syracuse, was transported to Goshen Hospital on Sunday, March 11, after becoming ill. The EMS was called at 6:43 p.m. Opal Nolan, 78, 412 N. Huntington St., Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital on Monday, March 12, after becoming ill at her home. The EMS was called at 9:14 a.m. Lynda A. Scott, 32, r 2 box 76 Syracuse, was transported to Goshen Hospital on Monday, March 12, after becoming ill. Nora (Stump) Parker, she was born in Colorado on July 19,1914. On Aug. 28,1932, she was married to Ralph Marchand. He died in 1981. She had belonged, to the North Webster Church of God and had lived in the Wilmot area most of her life. Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. John (Lorena) Davis, Wilmot, Mrs. Ronald (Nora) Lafferty, Vandergrift, Pa., and Mrs. Dwayne (Rebecca) Schlabach, Shipshewana; two sons, George Marchand, Syracuse, and Jimmie Marchand, Gary; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. bemice (Coldiron) Elliot, Oregon; two brothers, Kenneth Parker, South Bend and Daniel Parker, Goshen. Two brothers preceded her in death. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the North Webster Church of God. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday (today).

BPW YOUNG CAREERIST CHOSEN — The Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc., selected the District II Young Careerist representative during their recent Spring District Meeting at the International Friendship House on Saturday, March 10. <, The judges unanimously selected Beth Anne Bottorff of Plymouth as the District II Young Careerist and Susan Dent Hay of Michigan City as the alternate. Miss Bottorff is a loan review officer with Marshall County Bank and Trust Company in Plymouth. She is a member of the National Association of Banking Women, the Marshall County Mental Health Association, Business and Professional Women’s, Club, and the Plymouth Tennis Association. She is currently taking classes through the American Institute of Banking. Susan Dent Hay, chosen as alternate, resides in LaPorte and represents the Michigan City Chapter of the BPW. She is employed as a vice-president of sales and marketing at the Credit Bureau of LaPorte and the LaPorte Travel Bureau. She is married and has one daughter, Elizabeth, aged 17 months. She is a member of the Service League of LaPorte and the Tourism and Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Other candidates were Gretchen D. Insurance to be EMT topic Insurance for EMT’s will be the topic of the Emergency Medical Technician Continuing Education for the month of March. Jane Miller, EMT. and Pat Gaume, EMT Instructor, will talk on why EMT’s need insurance on Tuesday, March 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the Education Department at Goshen General Hospital. EMT Continuing Education is offered every third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. by the Education Department at Goshen General Hospital. Francis, 28, r 4 Syracuse, received minor injuries in a one-vehicle mishap and faces charges of driving while intoxicated. He was released from Goshen Hospital, Monday, March 12. The accident was Saturday, March 10, at 7:20 p.m. Francis was traveling east on US 6 when his 1977 Ford Bronco slid out of control on icy pavement, rolled over four times and came to stop against a utility pole. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment of injuries, observation and a blood test samnle was taken. Elkhart County Sheriff’s Ptl. Stephen Mcckler investigated. Webster youth booked in jail Scot James Heminger, 18, North Webster, was charged with failure to comply and booked at the Kosciusko County Jail. He was released after paying court-ordered charges.

In June, 1983, a residence on Chestnut Street in Winona Lake was burglarized while the owners were out for the evening. Entry to the residence was gained through a rear door on the ground floor. The point of entry showed pry marks on the door and then it was apparently forced open, splintering the door frame. The intruder, or intruders, then ransacked the entire house, taking along with them, 27 Hummel figurines, a silver tea service and some diamond jewelry. These items were valued at over $6,000.
