Husband of former resident killed in head-on accident

Randy J. Fetters, 24, 9803 Ohio 571, Arcanum, husband of the former Caryl Coy, formerly of Syracuse and North Webster, died as a result of fatal injuries received in a two-car accident at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, in Preble County Ohio, miles south of Lewisburg. He died around 5 a.m. after undergoing surgery in Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. He suffered a Skull fracture, a broken wrist and numerous internal injuries. He was a passenger in an auto driven by Linden Kauffman, 24, 418 Jefferson St., Pitsburg. The pair along with Kauffman’s

26-year-old wife, Juliann, were returning home from an all-day church league volleyball tourney. Kauffman suffered two broken arms and a concussion. He has also suffered complications. His wife, has both arms and legs broken, an ankle and pelvis broken. She also suffered abrasions around her heart with a blood clot and heart murmer She has been moved to the coronarycare unit. They both are at Good- X Samaritan Hospital. Ohio State Troopers report the Kauffman auto was northbound on 503 when it was struck head-on by a car driven by Gregory L. George, 21. The George car

reportedly veered left of center. Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch on the east side of the road. George and two passengers were taken to the hospital for injuries. Jobs Training Counselor Fetters, was born on May 31, 1959, to Mr. and Mrs. David (Reva) Fetters, Arcanum. He married Caryl Coy on June 20, 1981. He was a 1977 graduate of Franklin Monroe High School, Arcanum, and a 1981 graduate of Manchester College, North Manchester. He was a member of the Pitsburg Church of the Brethren, Pitsburg, Ohio; the church volleyball team; a gospel singing group; witness commission of the church; leader of The People of the Covenant Bible Study; on the YMCA volleyball team; and a jobs training counselor for Darke County, Ohio. In addition to his wife and parents, other survivors include two brothers, Darrell and Tracey, both at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John (Leia) Fetters, Arcanum and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Flory, Greenville, Ohio. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in the Pitsburg Church of the Brethren. Pastor John Edwards, Jr., officiated and burial was in Mote cemetery, Pitsburg. R. Hoscall Darr Father Off Syracuse Woman R. Hascall Darr, 90, Elkhart, formerly of Goshen, died in the Elkhart General Hospital at 7:20 a m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. He had been a patient there for one day. Born Dec. 3, 1893, in Syracuse, he was the son of Saylor and Ada (Bunger) Darr. On Dec. 23, 1913, ?he was united in marriage to Melvie Richcreek. She died in 1966. Darr was a retiree of the New York Central Railroad and belonged to the Moose and Eagles Lodges and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Fathers’ Auxiliary. Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Lucille) Baker, Goshen, Mrs. G. Maxine Wisley, Elkhart, and Mrs. William (Irma) Wiggs, Syracuse; one son, Chester Darr, La Puente, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Fern Schroder, Benton. One son and two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday in the Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen, with interment in the Solomon Creek cemetery near Benton. Kiwanis hear program on phone break-up

The Wawasee Kiwanis Club heard a program on the influence of the deregulation of the telephone system. The program was presented by Max Gross, a retired United Telephone employee, who gave a brief history of the development of the industry. Starting with a patent issued to Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, Gross also included the formation of the Federal Communications Commission in 1934, the regulatory agency of the Federal Government. Gross then brought the group up to date by explaining the use of the satellite system and the break-up of AT4T. He then discussed the influence this would have on the industry and business in particular. One problem will be that once local companies run out of phones and parts, consumers will have to look elsewhere for retail service. Second, since the company will
