By DOROTHA WINGER FRY Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren Two of the active religious groups in Jesus’ day were trying to find ways to trick Jesus. The Pharisees and the Scribes asked him about taxes and eternal life. They were astounded at his answers. The Pharisees chose one of their astute attorneys to question Jesus. He asked which of the laws was most important. Remember that the Jews had thousands of laws. Without any hesitation, Jesus answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And there is a second like it; You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hangs all the Law and Prophets ” * Wow! What a concise pattern for life —for our individual life and a pattern for the world to follow.
March begins drama month at Turkey Creek
March is Drama Month at Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren, CR 13 Nappanee, and several dramas depicting the teachings of Jesus’ parables are planned for Sunday evening March 4. The dramas will begin at 7 pm and be followed by a fellowship time The parable concerning “The Unjust Judge" from Luke 18:1-5 will explain the importance of prayer and what kind of a God our Father in heaven is. One of the most misunderstood subjects in the church today is prayer and the parable will address whether or not we are sending our prayers to the wrong address — praying to someone who isn’t at all like the God of the Bible, the loving God we can turn to everyday. Matthew 25:14-30 is the parable about “The Talents " How easy it is in today’s life “to-piayileafe.~ not get involved and not make waves.” But look at the people in

A pattern for living
To love God means to lift our eyes to the wonders, the beauty surrounding us and far beyond what we can see, we begin to realize a tiny bit the vastness of God, and, rather than just seeing God through our limited ideas, we begin to see God through the eyes of the universe and the globe on which we live. And yet in this vastness, we see God’s care and love for each of us individually. And this begins to stir us with an even greater love. Christ goes on to say, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This includes knowing who we are and whose we are. Each one of us is God’s creation. We are children of no less than the Almighty God. So each one is vastly important. As we realize this, we can look at ourselves and see our strengths and our weaknesses. Selfishness and self appreciation are the opposite. For a person who appreciates himself realizes his strengths but also his weaknesses and has the maturity to realize and respect the worth of other in-
the world and see who are the happy ones. Are they those who never run any risks, who never try to help others, but simply keep all of life for themselves? Or are the happy ones those who risk all for the good of others? These questions will be addressed in this parable. “The Dishonest Steward" from Luke 16:1-8 basically describes a common attitude that far too many people are better talkers than doers — that they are very enthusiastic for a cause as long as it doesn’t require any particular effort. If ffie dishonest steward worked so hard to protect his earthly existance, shouldn't we work even harder in our service to a loving and everlasting God? The program is open to the public and each family is asked to take< a doaen cookies for ths* fellowship time following the program.
dividuals. We are created by God and all our life is spent growing into the mature love of God. As we grow in this love, we can forget self and reach out to others, recognizing the divine spark of God in persons we live and work with. We see this in people we know and those we don’t know. We become aware of God’s people and their needs, not only around us in the Milford area, but we begin to see the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world. Then we want to reach out and touch their lives. It begins to give us a new perspective on the trouble spots in the world. It is not easy to love our neighbors as ourselves — especially the times when we feel rotten about ourselves and especially the times our Church dinner to benefit Gessinger The Men’s Fellowship of the Nappanee Church of the Brethren on Mack Drive will sponsor a benefit roast beef supper on Saturday, March 10, from 4 until 8 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. All proceeds will be given to Greg Gessinger, a Nappanee man who was injured in a traffic accident last summer Gessinger, a 1979 graduate of North Wood High School, is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the accident. Funds raised from the dinner will help defray some of the expenses not covered by insurance. At the time of the accident, Gessinger had been studying aerospace technology at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He is continueing his rehabilitation at home in Nappanee. The dinner will include roast beef, baked potato, vegetable, roll, jello salad and beverage. Among those selling tickets in advance are Thornburg Drugs, . Nappanee; and Koontz ' Hardware, Bremen. Tickets will also be available at the door.

neighbors, near or far, do some dumb or hurtful things. The triangle can only be completed as we recognize it as one. So we ask for God’s help in appreciating ourselves and our neighbors. God hears our prayers. God is closer to us than the air we breathe. As we are swept up in the love of God, neighbor and self. We will want to practice more and more the listening for God’s guidance. Then we can grow and become more mature in following the pattern for life that Christ gave us.

Parable of Jesus And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him Into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. FAITH SAYS THAT SELF-IMPROVEMENT BEGINS WITH PRAYER hatever the adherence to our faith may be, most of us recognize the fact that we are far from perfect in our thoughts and actions, and would like to improve ourselves any way we can. Os course, how easily this can be done will depend a great deal on how far we have strayed from the ideal conduct .prescribed by our faith or the prevailing culture. However, in any case the first step toward this reform program is prayer, both at our House of Worship and away from it; and it must be the right kind of prayer. So, instead of asking God for material advantages, try praying for the health of your family and friends, for peace and happiness in the world, and above all, for guidance to help you become a better person. Then, if you are truly sincere about this, you will make a real effort in that direction and find in the process that some of your prayers have already been answered.
