Obituaries
Louise S. Kiley Pioneer Lake Wawasee Resident Louise Stephenson Kiley, 73, 1310 Woodland Dr., Marion, and Pickwick Park, Lake Wawasee, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Marion Hospital. Mrs. Kiley had been critically ill for one month. She was born on October 26, 1910, in Marion, to J. W. and Edith Stephenson. Her father, a Marion industrialist started coming to Lake Wawasee in 1904 and purchased the family cottage at Pickwick Park in 1914. The home is still owned by the Kileys and Mrs. Kiley resided there every summer during her life. She attended such schools at Holton-Arms, Washington, D C.; Golfpark, Golf Port, Miss.; and college at Babson’s, Boston. Mass. She was an active member in the Meshingo Mesia Country Club, Marion and the Indianapolis Athletic Club. Mrs. Kiley was well known in the Syracuse and Goshen areas. The former Louise Stephenson married Philip J. Kiley, on October 18, 1933, in Marion' He survives and is an active business man. Additional survivors include one son, Michael J. Kiley, Marion, attorney, former judge and Lake Wawasee summer resident;. one daughter, Kathleen Phillips, Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; two sisters, Helen E. Klidec Marion and Milford S.

Wagner, Tuscon, Ariz. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 21, in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Marion, and burial in IOOF cemetery, Marion. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul’s Catholic Church or to the Kosciusko County Cancer Society. George Peffley Syracuse Native George R. Peffley, 72, Corbin Road, Toledo, Ohio, a native of Syracuse, died Friday, Jan. 13, in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was spending the winter. Peffley was born in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School. He resided in Syracuse until 1930 when he moved to Toledo Peffley was a salesman for the Babcock Dairy Company for 40 years, retiring in 1970, and an army veteran of World War 11. Survivors include his wife, Winifred; one son, Phillip; two grandsons; and a sister, Mrs. Miriam Byrd. Funeral services were Wednesda y , Jan. 18, in the Walker-Feilbach Mortuary, Talmadge Road, Toledo. Collingwood Lodge, F&AM, conducted services Tuesday evening, Jan. 17. Memorials made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children and Burns Institute or a charity of the donor's choice.
Cindy Hoover Found Dead In Roriiroom Cindy Sue (Coburn) Hoover, 30, r 2 Ligonier, was found dead on the bathroom floor around noon Sunday, Jan. 22, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Popenfoose, r 1 Kale Island, Syracuse. Police do not expect foul play. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Detective Tom Kitch stated the Popenfooses and several other persons, including Cindy Hoover, returned to the Popenfoose home around 4 a.m. Sunday after spending the evening at the Hayracker, Cromwell. Mrs. Popenfoose told police she saw the victim Cindy Hoover go into the bathroom around 9 a.m., but went back to sleep. Dirk Grider reportedly found the woman around noon and called Mrs. Popenfoose, a certified emergency medical technician. The Syracuse Emergency Medical Service and county sheriff’s department were called as well as the county coroner Gary Eastlund. Detective Kitch stated Cindy Hoover had died from unknown reasons and an autopsy was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday by a Muncie pathologist. The autopsy showed no anatomical cause of death and officials are inconclusive as to what caused her death. A toxicology test was sent to Indianapolis for analysis and the results, which should indicate the cause of death, are expected in the near future. Born In Fort Wayne Cindy Hoover was born on December 3, 1953, in Fort Wayne and her last place of employment was Ligonier Rubber Co. She recently had her name changed from Coburn to Hoover. Survivors included two daughters, Amy Hoover and
Michelle Gilbert, Kendallville; one sister, Tanna Comment, Pleasant Lake; her parents, Jacob and Helen (Reed) Hoover and foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shull, Hicksville, Ohio. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Syracuse cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. J Elsie Lee Born In Canada Elsie M. Lee, 88, r 4 Syracuse, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in her home. She was bom on August 11, 1895, in Esseix County, Canada, to Samuel and Emma (Brillinger) Ash. On November 12, 1913, she married Philip A. Lee. He preceded her in death on February 1,1971. Mrs. Lee had lived near Syracuse for the past 27 years, was a homemaker and member of Zion Chapel Church, Syracuse. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Delores) Torak, Mishawaka; three sons, Owen, North Webster, Cletus, Syracuse and Virgil, Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grand-children; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Boro May 9, 1905, in Syracuse to Charles and Myra (Ellis) Benner, she lived in Syracuse most of her life. On July 21,1921, she married Walter Graff, who died in 1976. She had been a homemaker and a member of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church. Kathrine Davis Member Os Milford Christian Church Kathrine M. Davis, 54, 304 North Henry St., Milford, died in the Goshen Hospital at 2:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, of an apparent heart attack. She had just undergone surgery. A lifetime resident of Milford, she was born March 8, 1929, to David and Marjorie Wuthrich. On Oct. 19, 1946, she married Robert Davis in Milford. He survives. She had been a homemaker and a member of the Milford Christian Church. She was past treasuer and president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and 8 et 40. Also surviving are: a son, Monte R. Davis; a sister, Phyllis Duncan; and two brothers, Nelson and Bill Wuthrich. Services were held Monday in Mishler Funeral Home, with burial in the Milford cemetery. « Levi Miller Fairfield School System Retiree Levi E. He retired in 1978 from the Fairfield School Corporation where he had worked as a maintenance man. He was a member of the Rock Run Church of the Brethren. His survivors include: his wife, Virginia (Stiver) Miller; two daughters, Mrs. Myrna Earnhart, Cromwell, and Mrs. Sandra Coy, Fort Wayne; six'sons, Rodney, Wilfred and all of Goshen, Herbert, Casper Wyo., Frederick, Indianapolis, and Marlin, Elkhart; two stepsons, Ron Stiver, Hewitt, Texas, and Tom Stiver, Syracuse; 28 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Miller, Rensselaer; and a brother, Roman Miller, Bremen. Services will be held Thursday in the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, with burial in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee. The EMS was called at 5:58 p.m. Roseta Belin, 22, r 3 box 365 Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital Tuesday evening, Jan. 17, after complaining of head pains. The EMS was called at 9:55p.m. Shawn Peterson, 20-months old, Rose Garden Apartment Three, Syracuse, was treated by the EMS after hitting his head. The ambulance was called to 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. The child was transported to Goshen Hospital by his grandmother. Amanda Rash, one, 1000 S. Main, Ligonier, fell while at a route 1 Syracuse address. The ambulance was called at 4:13 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, and was transported to Goshen Hospital. Jene Athey, 42, r 1 box 279 Syracuse, suffered a gun shot wound to his foot in a hunting accident. The ambulance was called at 11:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23. He was transported to Goshen Hospital.
