Milford, is expanding its services with the addition of new meat storage cases and a deli case. This work should be completed by the end of December. Jim Sattison. center, of Sattison Refrigeration, the company installing the new cases, is pictured above with Ron Schwarts, left, and Steve Schwarts. According to Ron. the store's interior will be completely remodeled following the installation of the new cases. Present plans call for the new cases to be put in place on December 19. The all-new meat department will offer top quality fresh meats along with old-fashioned over-the-counter service. Pre-packaged fresh meats will still be available for customers who prefer the convenience of self-service. “We will be offering the best of both worlds when it comes to shopping for meat." Ron said. The deli will feature a wide variety of bulk luncheon meats, cheeses and fresh salads. There will also be a new bakery department alongside the deli which will feature fresh-baked doughnuts and sweet rolls as well as home-baked “Amish” goods. (Photo by Tom Charles)
Busy week for Syracuse police officers
Syracuse Police Officers have investigated a number of complaints this past week. They follow: Pat Boeger, 201 S. John St., called police on Friday, Nov. 18, at 9:38 p.m. to report someone was trying to get into her apartment. Officer Robert Houser investigated. reported S2O in quarters and a coin box were stolen from the laundromat. The theft occurred between closing Monday, Nov. 28, and opening on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Chief Warren Swartz is investigating. Ben Franklin Store Manager Don Melton called police at 4:20 p.m. on November 22, when salesclerks caught a young boy sticking toys inside his jacket. The incident was checked out by
Officer Corky Wong. Blanche Kline, 212 Benton St., called police at 8:18 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, after hearing someone pounding on a window and shots fired. Officer Houser checked out the report. The police received an anonymous report of vandalism at 12:42 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27. The caller reported on Friday, Nov. 25, three “kids” pushed a small Pontiac onto East Brooklyn St., heading the wrong direction, and then sometime during the week end all four tires were flattened. The auto is registered to Robert Miller, 113 W. Main St. Chief Swartz reported the windshield and left mirror were broken. Paul Gardner, an employee of Red-D-Mart, SR 13, called police at 10:44 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, when he noticed his store keys were missing. Syracuse Police are continuing their investiga tion.

LAVERNE, LAVERNE, the delightful young woman pictured above with Ron Baumgartner, made an appearance at The M-J office yesterday (Tuesday) to wish Ron happy birthday. The M-J managing editor and new president of The Papers Incorporated (see article elsewhere in this issue) celebrated his 40th birthday with all of the frills befitting a man of his age. LAVERNE. LAVERNE was busy this week. She made a stop at the B & B in Nappanee on Monday morning to extend birthday wishes to David Widmoyer. Widmoyer is pastor of the Island Chapel-Hastings United Methodist Church. BECKY DOLL, accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Beer, and an aunt, Frances Clark, spent a beautiful week in Naples, Fla., recently. Becky says the weather was cool for Floridians at 75 degrees, but suited her just fine. A RETROSPECTIVE look at Lebanon, after three years on assignment there, won an Associated Press Managing Editors September story-of-the-month nomination for Nick and Earleen Tatro, according to information received this week from Bill Spurgeon, summer resident of Lake Wawasee and executive editor of The Muncie Star and Muncie Evening Press. Earleen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Fisher of Milford. The couple was in Milford a few weeks ago and now live in Tel Aviv, Israel, where Nick is bureau chief. “Most of Lebanon's violence is random, quixotic and impersonal," the Tatros wrote for AP Newsfeatures for Sunday. Syracuse Police Officer William Selvey estimated damage up to SI,OOO to the McVey vehicle and up to $2,500 damage to the Hann auto. Randy Bartels in car/deer accident Randy A. Bartels, 16, r 1 box 156 North Webster, was involved in a car/deer mishap Tuesday, Nov. 23, on SR 13 north of Syracuse. Syracuse Police Officer Corky Wong estimated the damage at S3OO to the 1981 Dodge driven by Bartels.
