hour, following distances should be increased and speeds reduced at dusk. Parents should warn children to complete an afternoon’s outdoor play earlier because it will be harder for drivers to see them. On the other hand, motorists should be on the lookout for children who don’t realize that
visibility has been reduced. The earlier darkness also makes it more important for parents to dress children in light-colored clothing. For added safety, AAACMC suggests decorating outerwear with reflectorized tape. The earlier onset of darkness also requires special Halloween safety precautions. Costumes should be light in color, possibly decorated with reflectorized tape or luminescent paint. AAA-CMC recommends make-up as an alternative to masks and baggy pants and oversized shoes should be skipped in favor of clothing less likely to trip a young trick-or-treater. Children should make their rounds during daylight hours, in groups along a planned route and with an adult or older sibling along, AAA-CMC recommends.
