Ken Melvin, Hobart, student director of the Ball State University Studio Theatre production of “Buried Child,” asks that those attending the play open their minds about the set views that Americans have concerning the family and the way it works. The Sam Shepard play will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 26-29 in room T-100 of the English building. Ticket information is available at the Ball State box office. Decay of the American family and its traditional values is explored in this Pulitzer Prize winning play. “Buried Child” tells the story of a poor farm family that is burdened with the guilt of burying an unwanted child in its backyard. The Barbee Lakes Property Owners Association Inc. held its monthly meeting at the Barbee Conservation Clubhouse on Saturday, Oct. 15. During the meeting, it was decided that the annual holiday meeting would be held on December 3 at the Classic Restaurant in North Webster. Members must make reservations in advance. Members took some time discussing the general meeting held on October 1. Attendance at that meeting was much higher than had been anticipated, with approximately 140 persons attending. Questionaires passed out during the meeting were filled out and returned by 49 families. It was reported that over 600 membership directories have been sold at the present time and that the association now has over 800 members. An intense

Catches of brown trout and walleye are reported to be doing very well due to the association’s ongoing stocking program. Signs and buoys chairman, Jim Stephens reported that all signs and buoys have been removed from the lakes with the exception of a few which mark submerged objects. The committee also recommended that the one-way sign in the channel between Big Barbee and Little Barbee Lakes be continued next season. The boating safety committee agreed to continue with the boating safety classes in the spring. The committee is also continuing the DNR patrols on the lake

Hearing Oct. 27 Association president John Weyler also discussed the Conklin Ditch hearing which is scheduled at the courthouse on October 27 at 9 a.m. Members were urged to attend this meeting. A detailed and comprehensive weed control program is being studied by the weed control committee. The program will involve several different methods of control. The committee also reported that there are several new volunteers for the coming year, and it was felt that the program will be even more successful. A wetlands preservation program is being studied and the board hopes to implement the program soon The next association board meeting will be held on November 19, at 8 a.m. at the Barbee Conservation Club.
