Baumgartner, of the commercial printing department, last Saturday. And. on September 23, Debra Fox, formerly of the Milford editorial department, now working out of the Goshen office, became the bride of Thomas Patterson of Syracuse. Last Thursday a shower was held in honor of Mrs. Patterson (an earlier shower, complete with style show, was held for Mrs. Baumgartner) in the home of editor Jeri Seely. The new Mrs. Patterson was asked to bake a cake, from scratch, without a recipe. She came up with the following: 2 cups flour teaspoon baking powder dash of salt (it looked more like a handful) 4 tablespoons oil l 2 teaspoon vanilla 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa 3 tablespoons butter 2 eggs
Jill Stover tell Rotary Enchanted Hills history
Jill Stover of Nappanee, owner and production director of the Enchanted Hills Playhouse, gave an informative talk to the Syracuse Rotarians at their Tuesday meeting. She said the “Generic" Press,” which is published for the Retail Merchants’ division of the Chamber of Commerce, had mentioned the demographics for the area show there will be a 49 per cent increase in the growth rate for this area, noting the playhouse plans to be a part of that growth. She began her talk with the history of the playhouse, starting with 1961. At that time it was designedfor theatre-in-the-round and was located in a barn at the east end of Lake Wawasee. This continued through the 1966 season. In 1967 the theatre was dark. No productions were performed that year. In 1968 the theatre was purchased by the Wawasee Arts Foundation which was headed by Dr. Robert Tolan. The WAF ran the theatre for three years. It was during this time the current configuration of the buildings came
M cup water 1 cup sugar cup milk This was placed in an ungreased baking pan and baked for 30 minutes at 425 degrees. Our age old “Busy-Day” Chocolate 4-H cake recipe on the other hand called for the following: cup flour 1 cup sugar teaspoon salt 2ti teaspoons baking powder Mj cup shortening (part butter) cup milk lea 1 teaspoon flavoring 2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate The cake is to be baked 35 minutes in a moderate (350) oven. SPEAKING OF recipes, we found Linda Bur... she’s really Linda Beer! Thanks Linda for calling in, we knew you had to be out there somewhere. BEER’S NURSERY’S floral shop is for rent, and may be the site of a new business in the near future, according to owner Max Beer. Beer said the location won’t necessarily remain a flower shop, and would make a good location for a beauty saloq, insurance office, or a variety of other businesses. The grounds and nursery itself are not for rent and will remain in operation, Beer added.
to be. The interior usable space was increased over 100 per cent and the exterior was redesigned to convert the building from a barn to a viable summer theatre. At this time the box office receipts were $16,000 and expenditure without remodeling came to $50,000. The theatre was then sold to the Thunder Bay Production Company which operated it until 1979. Jill Stover then leased the building for the summer season. Later that year it was purchased by the Stover Community Players. During the ensuing years they have received grants from the Indiana Arts Commission and from the Tourism Development Division of the State Department of Commerce. The* latter matching grant from the Tourism Development Division was for publicity. This had to include the tourism approach for the entire community as well as for the theatre. Today 75 per cent of the income for the playhouse comes from box office receipts and the remainder from other sources such as private donations, foundation grants and so forth. Mrs. Stover believes the program selection is one of the most important projects they have. They want to give the people of the community plays they want to see. During the season patrons are asked to fill out forms citing 15 plays they would like to see. These 15 are then sent to season ticket holders to be narrowed down to the top six which will be considered. This also applies to the parents of the children who attend plays. From this list, and the availability of plays, the selection for the following season is made. Among those being considered for the 1984 season are: “My Fair Lady;” “The King and I;” “Peter Pan;’’ and “Camelot.” During the season there is also a seminar session after the Friday night play. This is open to the public as well as the cast members and has been received with enthusiasm. The idea is to present an educational program to the public as well as the entertainment of the plays themselves. The company is affiliated with Indiana University and college credits may be earned through this program. Jill Stover re-emphasized the fact the Enchanted Hills Playhouse and the Stover Community Players are here to be a part of the community and plan to be an integral part of the economic growth of the Syracuse-Wawasee area. Milford girl hurt in mishap Melanie Erasure, 17, Milford, sustained injuries to her upper leg Friday when the auto she was driving struck a tree on Sullivan Road, two miles south of North Webster. She was traveling south and going around a curve when she lost control, went off the road and hit a tree, police said. Damage to the auto was listed between SI,OOO and $2,500. She was treated and released from Kosciusko Community Hospital.
