10 YEARS AGO. OCT. 10.1073 The Women's Missionary Society of the First Brethren Church of Milford met at the home of Mrs. Herman Miller on October 4. Miss Rebecca Brown was guest of honor on Saturday, Oct. 6, at a 1 o'clock luncheon given by her aunt, Mrs. Harry Phend and her grandmothers, Mrs. Royce Fuller and Mrs. Ronald Brown. All are from Milford. The Milford Senior Citizens organization will meet at the Christian Athletic Center at 1 p.m. Sunday for a potluck dinner. All senior citzens are invited to attend. Bud and Jeri Seely were off to another Lions meeting on Saturday night, this one at Pokagon State Park near Angola. 20 YEARS AGO, OCT. 10,1963 Milford Lions heard a talk Monday night at the Melody case given by Russell Daubert, chaplain of the Indiana State prison at Michican City for the past two years. The third annual, Punt, Pass and Kick competition for boys ages 8 through 11, and sponsored by the C.S. Myers Ford Sales and Service in Milford, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Mrs. Fred Ramser of Alliance 0., is visiting in Milford with her son and daugher-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Ramser and family. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Haines of Milford are the parents of their first child, Robert Allan, born on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 1:05 p.m. in

OCT. 8.1953 Miss Mary Ellen Bray was the guest of honor at a bridal shower given Friday evening by Mrs. Harold Geiger and Mrs. Willard Charlton at the home of Mrs. Charlton. Bridal party games were played and after many lovely gifts have been opened by the bride-elect, dainty refreshments were served. Mrs. Kenneth Overmyer is bookkeeper at the Milford grain and milling company taking the place of Miss Dolores Slabaugh, who resigned a few weeks ago. Word was received Monday from Miss Slabaugh, who at the time of the writing was at Huntvillej Ala., stating that she, Miss Florence Beer, and Miss Marietta Mellinger of Nappanee, had spent the previous weekend at Bainbridge, Ga. They are on their way to Florida, where they expect to remain for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cecil were notified yesterday of the birth of their first grandson, Donald Norman, born at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Muncie Ball Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Stoltz of Pendleton. Mrs. Stoltz was formerly Miss Norma Cecil. Ride-A-Thon benefits area youth
A Bike-A-Thon sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, North Webster, has been scheduled for cyclists in the North Webster and surrounding communities for Saturday, Oct. 15, according to Jon Roberts, chairman for the event. October 22 has been set as an alternate date if a change is necessary because of weather conditions. The Bike-A-Thon will provide a worthwhile activity for participating youth and funds realized from the project will be used for youth programs in the Lakeland area. Registration forms are available at the North Webster Elementary School and Ace Hardware in North Webster. Riders will follow a route from Augsburger's parking lot to Quaker Haven and back, an approximate 15 miles. Riders under 21 must have their parents sign their registration forms and each rider should use his form to secure sponsors for the ride. All participants in the Bike-A-Thon should take their completed registration forms to the parking lot in North Webster by 9 a.m. on Saturday for checking before starting the ride. After completion of the ride, bikers must secure certification of their completion from the Kiwanis member in charge at the parking

Papakeechie Homeowners road run The Papakeechie Homeowners Association is sponsoring a lake Papakeechie Road Run. The race is to be held on October 15 beginning at 10 a.m. The run begins in an area near Lake Wawa see’s marina and grocery store. It winds around the lake on Papakeechie Road. The entire course is paved, with a number of hills to test the mettle in the best of runners. There is ample shade, and the time of year should present a fantastic aray of lovely autumn colors. This is northern Indiana's answer to Brown County. There are different categories for men and women. Trophies will be awarded to overall winner of the race, and to the first place winners in each age category. Ribbons to second and third place winners of each category. “T” shirts to all runners.
