M YEARS AGO. OCT. X MO Members of the Syracuse Chapter 383 Order of the Eastern Stars chose “The Sound of Music” as their theme when they honored Mrs. Clem User. Sr., on September ». Mrs. Lisor is serving the Indiana Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Stars as Grand Esther this year. The Wawasee Warriors shut out the Bremen Lions 33-0 last Friday night. Among the girls running for homecoming queen are Bobbie Rhodes, of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rhodes; Joy Becker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Becker; Julee Staley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Staley; and Shirley Miller laughter of Mrs. Mae Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brown are parents of a 9 pound eight ounce son Jason Arthur. He was born September 26 at the Goshen Hospital. Members of the Syracuse Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Maurice Koher on Tuesday. Mrs. Pete Blue served as co-hostess.

Sixteen Kosciusko County students graduated the second summer term from Ball State University in Muncie. 29 YEARS AGO, OCT. 3. IMS Ctem Lisor, owner of the Sportsman's Center m the Village, began construction of a new buiidmg on Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ahrens of North Syracuse are the proud owners of a M pound squash. It had a circumference of 57 inches. Mr. and Mrs. James Connolly, Syracuse will leave on a trip to Las Vegas on October 14. Mr. W. E. Long, Syracuse was a guest at a luncheon bridge held at Hotel Elkhart last Wednesday. The Syracuse fire department answered a call at 5:50 a m. September 30. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Rang on North Shore Drive. There was an estimated SIO,OOO damage done to the back of the house. Mrs. Estelle Swartz returned home from Chicago Sunday where she had been demonstrating for a cooking school. Land '0 Lakes C.B. Club to hold jamboree The Land '€> Lakes C.B. Club is sponsoring its seventh Jamboree on Sunday. Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Warsaw Park Pavilion. Warsaw. Proceeds from this year’s benefit will be used to purchase smoke detectors for the elderly and handicapped citizens of Kosciusko County. Last year, the club was able to purchase and distribute 65 smoke detectors around the county. The Kosciusko County Fireman’s Association them through local fire departments. The emcee for the event will be Pat Lazenby, better known as Pitter Patter, from Westport. Flatside and Little Flatside, famous clowns from Muncie, will also be appearing. Trophies will be awarded to the largest club, in state; largest club, out-of-state; best dressed club, in state; best dressed club, out-of-state; farthest traveled club, in state; farthest traveled club, out-of-state; and best dealer display. All trophies require five members or more, a typed club roster and membership cards. Registration will close at 3 p.m. The Southern Rain Band will kickoff the live entertainment at noon. They are a local countryrock band known throughout the Kosciusko County area. The Barroom Buddies Band will begin its entertainment at 2:30 p.m. They are one of Northern Indiana's best country music entertainers. A male beauty contest will be held at 3:30 p.m., with trophies going to the top two finishers. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Fun is planned for all. So far this year the C.B. Club has donated over $2,000 to local charities including Special Olympics, Multiple Sclerosis and the Kosciusko County Juvenile Task Force. Beer named counselor at Purdue Philip D. Beer 11, r 1 Milford, has been selected as a counselor for Purdue University’s Tarkington Hall. Beer is studying civil engineering and land surveying at Purdue Each counselor has responsibility for 45 to 50 students. The counselors are the student administrative staff of the residence halls, advise student organizations within each hall and are available for other counseling duties.
