Warrior cross country squad continues
The Wawasee boys’ cross country squad boosted its record to 10-2 Tuesday afternoon with a 23-35. 22-34 win over Plymouth and Concord at Plymouth. Dan Bachtel of Concord was the winner in a time of 17:00. followed by Jerry Auer of Wawasee at 17:12. Other Warriors to finish in the top 10 were Mike Ballinger, who finished in fifth place with a time of 17:45; Dick Doll, who placed sixth with a mark of 17:52; Scott Badskey, who finished ninth at 18:04. and Brian Popenfoose, who was tenth at 18:22. Other Warriors to finish were Carl Rouch (11th), Troy Minton (18th), Andy Miller (19th), Troy Boyer (25th), Steve Schmaul (26th), Mark Miller (28th), Phil Charters (30th), Mike Goodspeed (33rd), Sean Brier (36th) and Pete McFarland (39th). Lady Warrior golfers head into final match undefeated
Coach Rudy Cesco’s Lady Warrior golf squad Tuesday afternoon boosted its regular season mark to 9-0 by defeating Tippecanoe Valley, 205-254, in a match played on the Vikings' home course in Rochester. Tammy Tranter and Kathy Jones paced the team by posting scores of 49, while Beckie Welty shot a 52, Barb Hostetter 55, and newcomer Dana Nigbor 69. On Monday afternoon, the Lady Warriors hosted Manchester and came out on top, 194-214. Barb Hostetter led the squad with a 45, followed closely by Beckie Welty with 46, Tammy Tranter with 50, Sandy Bowman with 53 and Kathy Jones with 54. On Saturday, the team traveled to the Huntington North Invitational, where the Lady Warriors placed fourth out of 11 schools. Rockie runners Dawn Edwards and Melanie Day placed first and second with times of 12:35 and 12:40, but Wawasee runners dominated the remaining positions in the top 10 finishers. Carla Clouse finished third with a time of 13:21, Sheila Kleinrichert was fourth at 13:26; Amy Clouse was fifth at 13:40; Patty Routsen was sixth at 13:46; Becka Stiver seventh at 13:55; Dawn Coy eighth at 14:47 and Angie Smith 10th at 15:16. Coach Barb Brouwer's Wawasee volleyball team stretched its win streak to 10 straight matches Tuesday night, defeating Columbia City in a home match, 15-10, 15-6. Outstanding performers for the Lady Warriors included Tammy Welborn, who was 11-for-ll in serving; Anita Swope, who was 45-for-46 in sets with 12 winners; Christy Speicher, 15-for-15 in serves with one ace and 5-for-8 in spikes with three winners; Marcia Sorensen, 6-for-7 in spikes with two winners, and Sandy Payne, 5-for-7 in spikes with one winner. In junior varsity action, Wawasee downed Columbia City, 15-9. 15-7. Coach Terri Stevens’ junior varsity record stands at 6-4.

Troy Minton (18:27) and Troy Boyer (18:46). The girls’ squad fell to Columbia City. 24-31. Carla Clouse was the top Wawasee finisher, coming in second with a time of 11:49. Sheila Kleinrichert finished fourth with a time of 12:15. The team will be participating in the Manchester Invitational on Saturday.
The Wawasee freshman team also played Tuesday night and fell to Columbia City. 13-15, 8-15. The freshman record is currently 1-4. The Lady Warriors traveled to Northridge on Monday evening, where they won in two games. 15-12 and 15-10. The junior varsity also downed Northridge. 15-12. 15-13. On Thursday evening, the squad visited Bremen and captured one of the more exciting matches of the year, winning 14- 5-15. 18-16. The junior varsity topped Plymouth by scores of 15-12. 15The team travels to Plymouth for a match on Thursday evening.
