Oct. 8, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital Wheels for are now asking Milford citizens to back their efforts by pledging a contribution for each mile they ride. “The money our riders earn will continue Saint Jude’s lifesaving study of childhood cancer that has become so important to children all over the world,” said Bike-a-tffon chairman Margaret Brooks. “We’ll be showing that we care about childen by helping this cause,” Margi said. “Please support your riders with a generous pledge, and then help them get the funds to us as soon as the ride is over. “Each rider will be given a lap card when he or she registers at the Milford School on Saturday,” she said. “Every time a rider rides through the check point, we’ll initial the card. At the end of the ride, we’ll check it and sign it to show that the rider earned what the sponsor pledged.” Riders will then return to the sponsors to collect the pledges. “We’ll also be giving them a hospital bracelet saying ‘l’m riding for Terry’ to wear during the ride. Terry is a Saint Jude patient who represents all victims of the illness under study at Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The ride will be held on the Milford Elementary School grounds beginning at 8 a.m. on the Bth. “If you have not been asked to sponsor a rider, please call 658-4640 and we’ll get one to call you,” Margi said. Riders can still obtain sponsor/registration forms at the school. AN AMERICAN flag was presented to the school board of Maple Grove School, located on CR 900 W, Milford, on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The presentation was made on behalf of the American Legion, Ancil Geiger Post 226, by Commander Stan Stump and Finance Officer Russell Ruch. BAKED ITEMS are needed for the bake sale to be held at the community building on Saturday morning. The sale will benefit the community building fund and will be used to cover expenses (re: utility bills, etc.) since the income from renting the building does not cover all expences. MAD President Jean Treesh said no calls have been made seeking donations of items but people are urged to participate. Baked items should be taken to the community building by 8:30 a m. Saturday.
The sale, as well as the monthly blood pressure check and diabetic screening, will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. THE BAKE sale goes along with the annual Milford Firemen’s chicken barbecue, which is carry-out only, on Sunday. People can buy their baked goods on Saturday and their chicken on Sunday and not have to do much cooking at ' all. The BBQ will be held from 11:30 until 3 p.m. with all presales reserved. Tickets may be purchased from the firemen and at the door as long as there is chicken available. Fire Chief Max Duncan said they will have a total of 1,200 halves. MRS. KENNETH Haney of r 2 Milford entertained at a birthday party on Sunday for her husband and granddaughter. Tonya Bope of Bremen. Mr. Haney isn’t telling his age but young Tonya was 11 years old on Sunday. Haney’s birthday was on the 23rd. Present for the celebration were Tonya’s mother, Marjorie, and her brothers, Jim and Lonnie; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Heckman, Suze and Tim, also of Bremen; Carmen Polk of LaPaz; Mr. and Mrs. Galen Haney and Lee of North Webster; Mr. and Mrs. David Musselman of Fort Wayne; Lyle Haney of Ball State; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cotton and Christopher of Warsaw; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hawley of Bourbon; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Haney, Karen and Laurie of Milford; and Mrs. Amelia Haney of Van Dalia, Mich. The Gene Cottons missed the event as they returned son Terry to Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer. Cake, ice cream, punch and sandwiches were served. MANY AREA residents were concerned about Nick and Earlene Tatro during the recent fighting in Lebanon. The Tatros are Associated Press correspondents who were stationed in Beruit. Mrs, Tatro is the former Earlene Fisher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Fisher of r 2 Milford. The couple is currently vacationing in Florida and will be in Milford around the middle of October before leaving for Israel where they will be continue their work in the Middle East. SUNDAY GUESTS in the home of Julia Reed were Ruth Wood, Cleo Fisher and Devere Cloud, all of Elkhart. The women have been close friends for many years. Reunion held on Sunday Fifty-seven members and friends of the Rapp, Stieglitz, and Zimmerman families met for their annual reunion Sunday, Sept. 25. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Zimmerman were hosts for the carryin meal. A short program followed the dinner. It included a resume of Andrew Zimmerman given by Berniece Dwyer. Part of a genealogy recently completed by Gene Miller of Irvine, Calif. Mr. Miller is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zimmerman of Florence, Ariz., were , guests at the reunion. Gas cans taken from lake home M.G. Smith, r 2 Syracuse, reported to authorities that two red boat gas cans were taken between September 7 and September 24 from his Lake Wawasee home. SI,OOO damage in chimney fire A chimney fire at the home of Carl Stidams, EMS lane 317, Syracuse, caused an approximate SI,OOO in damages on September 21 at 9:53 p.m. Leesburg woman in collision Autos operated by Douglas R. Mayhew, 21, of 1901 Ironwood Dr., Warsaw, and Donna Arnett, 29, r 2 Leesburg, collided at the corner of Colfax and Center Streets in Warsaw Saturday afternoon.
