Fall fishing looks good in area lakes

The 1983 summer fishing season came to a close as September arrived. Northeast Indiana fishermen can begin looking forward to the fall and winter fishing seasons. Cooler days will bring on renewed fishing activity as fish make last minute feeding forages before ice-up. Try Bixler Lake at Kendallville for fall bluegill, pike and channel catfish fishing. Bluegill fishing should also be good at Spear Lake and Shock Lake, located on the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area near North Webster. Bear Lake and Loon Lake, south of

Netters drop three NLC matches

Wawasee boys' tennis coach Scott Siler said last week he was going to continue switching performers around at different spots until he finds the right combination. But it looks as if the right combination is yet to be found from the results of the team’s last three meets. Wawasee dropped three of its latest matches, all NLC foes, losing last week to Plymouth (5-0), Bremen (4-1) and North Wood (3-2) Tuesdaynight. dropping the team’s record to 0-4 in conference play. Overall, however, the boys’ are 5-5 on the season. For Wawasee a .500 mark is a rarity, since the boys' tennis program has not hovered around the even mark for several seasons.

Thursday clinched the Northern Lakes Conference round-robin title for coach Rudy Cesco’s squad Beckie Welty, who was even through five holes, led Wawasee with a 43, followed by ShellyRogers with a 51, TammyTranter and Kathy Jones with 54 each, and Barb Hostetter with 56. For Goshen, Judy Ingold had 47, while Kris Ankney shot 50. Andrea Cherniak had 52, Kate Murto had 69. and Becky VanderWay shot 70. At Fort Wayne's Colonial Oaks Golf Course Monday afternoon, the Lady Warriors posted a 186-194 win ov%r Carroll. Sandi Bow man paced Wawasee with a 45. followed by KathyJones and Barb Hostetter with 46 each, Beckie Welty with 49 and Tammy Tranter with 55. Carroll was led by Julie Shumaker with a 44. followed by Jenny Guyer with 49, Jodie Jennings with 50, and Jennifer Slabach and Cindy Stenger w-ith 51 each.
