Fred Olds visits Warsaw

Members of the Lakeland Art Association and the general public had the opportunity to meet the founder of the association during his recent visit to Warsaw during Pioneer Days. Western artist, Fred Olds, held a three day open house at Cox Studio in Warsaw during Pioneer Days and posed for portraits with some of the members of the Lakeland Art Association and other members'of the community. The artist grew up in the Warsaw area and graduated from Warsaw Community High School. Olds, with a group of art students from his high school class, founded the Lakeland Art Association in June, 1957. His purpose was to promote and encourage an appreciation of fine painting as well as the development of individual r talent. Olds is currently the director of the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and the regional museum supervisor for the Oklahoma Historical Society. Tne Lakeland Art Association is a non-profit organization supported by many patrons and business persons in the area, and several current members are charter members. The Association sponsors a variety of community projects, including school student art shows, sidewalk shows, exhibits in hospitals and schools in addition to the group lessons held each month at the regular meeting. The group meets on the fourth Monday of each month at the Bowen Center activity room. During the recent “120 Center” art exhibit, sponsored by the Lakeland Art Association, a raffle was held with six persons winning paintings and drawings donated by area artists. The first prize oil painting by Ruth Whiteneck of Warsaw, was won by Lila O’Connell; a watercolor by Mike Yazel of Mentone, was won by Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Landis; an oil painting by Howard Kiser, North Webster went to Benji Hall honored at luncheon A bridal luncheon shower for Benji Hall, Syracuse, was held on July 30 at a local restaurant. The head table was decorated with flowers in a sprinkling can which sat in a basket. A corsage was presented to the bride-to-be. Guests were from Fort Wayne, Goshen, Muncie, Elkhart, Bristol, and Syracuse. Hostesses for the shower were the bridegroom’s aunt, Dianne Roberts; and grandmother, Glenace Kerf in.

Junior Leaders banquet held

The annual 4-H Junior Leader Achievement banquet was held recently in Goshen. The county 4-H Junior Leader Club had 99 completing the 1983 project. Sixty were present at the banquet. Jeff Culp of Nappanee served as toastmaster for the evening. Following the meal, pledges were given by Troy Hammon, Bristol and Rory Campbell, Goshen. Pat Goossen, extension agent-youth, and Jeff Culp, 1983 junior leader president, recognized junior leaders completing their project and awarded the 4-H pins. Following the presentation, Jeff Culp conducted the election of officers for the 1984 4-H year. Milford family help celebrate 81st birthday Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lechlitner, Milford, were hosts Sunday, July 31, for a surprise birthday parity for his mother, Mrs. Elmer Lechlitner, Bourbon, formerly of Milford, who turned 81 years old on July 29. Approximately 40 guests attended the celebration sharing a sausage and corn roast and! a large birthday cake with Mrs. Lechlitner who received a surprise telephone call from her grandson in Georgia. Guests attending the event were from Syracuse, Bourbon, Bremen, Argos, Plymouth and Etna Green. Here's what's cooking! ZUCCHINI-POTATO FRITTATA 2 medium zucchini, cubed (about 3cups) 2 medium potatoes, peeled ; sliced thin (about 2 cups) 1 large ration, sliced thick 4 tsp. salt V 4 tsp. pepper 3 Toil 6 eggs 2 T each grated parmesan cheese and chopped parsley In large covered skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, cook zucchini, potatoes, onion, salt and pepper in oil 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Meanwhile beat eggs with cheese and parsley. Pour over zucchini mixture. Cook over low heat five minutes, ’running spatula around edges as eggs set and tipping pan slightly to allow uncooked eggs to run to bottom. Cover; cook about five minutes longer or until top is barley set. Makes four servings. Reunion held Family members of the late Mary and James Gilbert of Syracuse met Sunday in the community building of Greenhaus Apts., Syracuse, for a carry-in dinner. There were 46 in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Johnston of Syracuse were in charge of arrangements. Those attending were from Leavenworth, Kans.; Crawfordsville; South Bend; Fort Wayne, Pierceton; Milford; and Syracuse. Molly O'Connor, Richard Young married at Dewart Lake July 16

Molly O’Connor, Kokomo, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O'Connor, became the bride of Richard Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. Young, r 5 Syracuse, during a 2 o’clock ceremony on Saturday, July 16, in the home of the bridegroom’s parents at Dewart Lake. Rev. Harlen Steffen of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiated at the double-ring ceremony in the presence of 100 guests. The home was decorated with daisies. The bride chose a white and flowered street-length dress and carried a bouquet of mixed pastel flowers. Rene Hursey of r 3 Syracuse served as maid of honor. She wore a light blue dress. The bridegroom’s brothers, Fredrick A. and Thomas R. Young, Jr., r 5 Syracuse, served as best men. The bridegroom’s mother wore a rose frock with flowered print.

A reception was held in the yard after the wedding with Linda Nyce, Cathy Young and Doris Wall serving the punch and wedding cake. Following a wedding trip to California the couple is residing in Rochester. The new Mrs. Young is a 1978 graduate of Haworth High School in Kokomo and a 1979 graduate of Kokomo School of Practical Nursing. Her husband is 1977 graduate of Wawasee High School and is a construction worker. Syracuse Rubber to hold picnic Syracuse Rubber Products will hole its annual company picnic on Saturday.
