10 YEARS AGO. AUG. 8.1973 Most grocers in the greater Lakeland area report there is plenty of beef but it’s just not available and probably won’t be available until the price freeze is lifted. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur (Ted) Baumgartner of Milford entertained at a breakfast brunch at a Warsaw restaurant Monday morning for Mr. and Mrs. Victor Beer of Laßelle, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beer of Milford. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Beer and daughter Debra of Laßelle, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henne and daughter Lisa of Winter Haven, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rigs, son Robin and his wife of Indianapolis have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beer of Milford. The Victor Beers left for Francesville today to spend several days with Beer’s relatives. Mrs. Henne and Mrs. Riggs are daughters of the Henry Beers. Mrs. Lee Lurton and Matthew of Indianapolis are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gray of Waubee Mobile Home park. Mrs. Lutron and son arrived Sunday and will be staying until Wednesday. 20 YEARS AGO, AUG. 8, 1963 Tiny Milford Junction was the scene of two bad train wrecks, both on the B & 0 railroad, in the past seven years. The most recent wreck occurred at 6:35 p.m. Saturday when 54 cars of a westbound 112-car freight train (No. 176) piled up at the base of the two-story brick tower where Lloyd Mynhier was on duty.

Mrs. Julia May of Milford, Mrs. Marie Brekke of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Anna Baron of Moose Jaw, Sask., Canada, were together for the first time in 55 years Sunday at a family dinner at the home of Mrs. May. Those present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon May and family, Everett May and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Berkeypile, all of Milford, Alvie May and family of Elkhart, Grace, Carl, Harley Price and Mr. and Mrs. Don Carl, all of South Bend, and the Earl May family of Wayne, Mich. Roger Hollar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hollar of r 2 Milford, left early Monday morning with a group of FFA boys from Nappanee High School. They visited many places of interest in Illinois and Wisconsin. 30 YEARS AGO, AUG. 6,1953 Announcement has been received of the marriage of Miss Edith Medart of Pfungstadt, Germany and Billy G. Little, son of E. E. Little, Milford. The ceremony took place at 4:30 o’clock Saturday afterno.on, August 1, at Petrus Church in Darmstadt, Chaplain (Major) Joseph Soloman, CambraiFritsch subpost Chaplain officiating. Driver training has been added to the curriculum of five schools in the county including Milford. Gale Metzger will be in charge of the training in these five schools. Mrs. Mary Mullin was hostess at a dinner Wednesday for Mr. and Mrs. George Macker, of West Alexandria, 0., Mr. and Mrs.

Gerald Grove and son, Frank, Mrs. Ida Grove and Mrs. Bertha Weybright. The Markers are visiting other relatives and friends in this vicinity for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Orn will appear in a special service at the Christian Church Sunday evening Aug. 9, at 7:30 o’clock. Their many friends are invited to attend this service and encourage them in their chosen work. Trustee John Augsburger and two member of his advisory board, Noble W. Neff and Ray Ferverda, met Wednesday evening with representatives of Maurer and Maurer, South Bend contractors to discuss plans for Vanßuren township proposed new elementary school building. They met at Mr. Augsberger’s cottage on the East shore of Lake Wawasee. 50 YEARS AGO, AUG. 10,1933 Noble Neff of Milford and other basketball coaches in the county will attend the basketball school at Anderson, Aug. 21 to 26. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Wuthrich and Mr. and Mrs. John Barth and daughter of Morton, 111., came Monday to spend the week with Mrs. Fred Wuthrich and her sons. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bartholomew of Battle Creek, Mich., called on Mrs. Lizzie Martin, Sunday, who has been ill for a number of weeks but is very much improved. Mr. and Mrs? Rudolph Hoerr, Sr., and family and Miss Clara Rassi of Morton, 111., spent a part of this week at the home of Walter Wuthrich. Mrs. Arthur Porter of Los Angeles, Calif., is visiting her mother Mrs. A.M. Lutes and her sister Mrs. C. W. Estep and family. Dog enters yard, attacks other canine Linda Simon, 718 South Fourth St., Syracuse, reported to authorities that a large English Sheepdog owned by Dave Shields, 701 South Huntington, Syracuse, had entered her fenced-in back yard and attacked her miniature German Shepherd, that was tied to her back door. Shields told authorities that in the future, he would do a better job of controlling the dog, which reportedly has caused frequent problems in the neighborhood.

4 \ ' f * / C 5/v A' % \ m GENEALOGY SECTION SPEAKER — Stuart Harter of Churubusco will speak at the regular meeting of the Genealogy Section of the Kosciusko County Historical Society on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The meeting will be held at the new justice building on West Main Street, Warsaw. Harter is a graduate of Churubusco High School and Purdue University with a degree in mathematics and an associate of engineering degree in computer technology. He is presently employed as an analyst and consultant for Computer Consulting Associates of Fort Wayne. He is president of the Churubusco Area Genealogical Society and has worked with the group on various projects of compiling genealogical information. He is also a member of Compu-ta-tree Club, a genealogy interest group in Fort Wayne. He has researched and published records of Whitley, Noble, Wells and Allen Counties and bas written “How to Compile and Index Census Records with a Personal Computer,” as well as a set of programs to maintain family genealogical data on a computer. Since 1978, he has done extensive research on the Harter family of Virginia, Ohio and Indiana. This research has included trips to the National Archives, Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Pennsylvania, many counties of Ohio and most of Northeastern Indiana. The Society library books are still being catalogued and will not be available at this meeting. Please return any society books that they may be properly catalogued.
