!• YEARS AGO. JULY 4,1973 The Pickwick Theatre concluded it’s grand opening this week. The grand opening was held to celebrate the complete refurbishing of the theatre. Winners in last weeks golf meet at Maxwelton’s for Scramblers Play was first place Gene and Floria Steffel and Bird and Edit Kline; second place winners were Nelson ard June Aurer, and Gutch and Billie Pipper. Girl Scout troupe 225 held their first summer meeting. Meetings will be held every Wednesday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. this summer. Officers elected are president Kristy Beecher; vice president Brenda Beecher; secretary Becky Salinas; treasurer Debbie Lechlitner. On July 2, Rev. and Mrs. David r. Haifley celebrated their 25th anniversary. They have seven children, six of them all home. A celebration will be held as soon as

Jerry Stouder, owner of Century Builders, Syracuse, attended the annual All American Homes Builder’s meeting recently in Fort Wayne. The two-days “Nuts and Bolts” meeting featinred seminars on financing, Former trooper indicted It was announced by Elkhart County Prosecutor, Michael A. Consentino and Lt. John Siegel, Commander of the Bremen State Police Post, that on Wednesday, June 22, the Elkhart County Grand Jury returned three indictments against former state trooper Derrick E. Waxton. Two Os the indictments were for theft and one was for perjury. One of the theft indictments is the result of an investigation into vehicle parts reported missing from Kirk Chevrolet in Goshen. The second theft indictment involves the alleged failure to pay adequate Indiana sales tax following the purchase of a vehicle. The perjury indictment also resulted from the sales tax investigation. , The indictments by the grand jury are a result of by the Indiana State Police and the Goshen Police Department. Waxton was employed by the Indiana State Police irom July, 1960, through June 16, 1983, at which time his employment was terminated following an administrative hearing before State Police Superintendent, John T. Shettle. Waxton was taken into custody at 10 a jn., June 22, 1983, booked into the Elkhart County Jail, and released on $5,000 cash bond pending further action by Elkhart County Superior Court I.
