Babette Badgley to represent Wabash County Babette Badgley, r 1 box 309 Wabash, is sponsored as “Miss Wabash County, USA, 1983,” in the Mermaid Festival Queen Os Lakes Contest. She was selected as “Miss Wabash County, USA, 1983,” in the finals of “Miss Indiana USA Beauty Pageant,” in Merrillville. She is 18 years old, five feet, four inches tall with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She weighs 118 pounds. “Miss Wabash County,” was selected from “The Miss Indiana National Beauty Pageant in Indianapolis in November, as “Miss Wabash National, 1983.” She is a graduate of Wabash Beauty College and is a professional beautician and cosmotologist.

The book, “Rabbit is Rich,” by John Updike, recently won the literary triple crown: Pulitzer Prize, American Book Award, and National Book Critics Circle Award. The special. “What Makes Rabbit Run?: A Profile of John Updike,” follows the acclaimed CPR classes at Tippy The Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners, Inc., is sponsoring cardio pulmonary resuscitation classes at the Tippecanoe Boat Company on June 29 and 30. Classes will be from 6:30-10 each evening under the leadership of Sally Doll, a certified CPR teacher of the American Red Cross. Anyone interested in taking the classes should contact the executive secretary of the Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners Association, Vicki Johnson, 453-3905, before June 24. Persons must be 14 years of age and older and there is a fee per person. Boat-in worship to be led by Rev. Philip Frew The Boat-In-Worship service on Sunday, June 26, will be led by Rev. Phillip Frew of Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church. The service is held at Oakwood Hotel piers at 8:30a m. Worship leader this week is Rev. Harlan Steffen, pastor of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel. American writer on a 1982 publicity tour promoting the third of his books about Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom. It airs on Channel 34, Public Television, on Tuesday, June 28, at 9 p.m. “The reason I consented to do the program,” said Updike, “is that it did seem an opportunity not often likely to come into my life — to make a record of certain things that were important to my sense of myself as a person and a writer. It seemed to me not merely an egotistical thing, but in some sense the kind of recording of the flux of life that 1 do in my life as well.” The flux not only includes the publicity tour, but also a trip into his past — the Pennsylvanian

Local photographer joins PP of A
JoLene Hum, North Webster, was recently accepted for membership in Professional Photographers of America, Inc., (PP of A), subscribing to a strict code of ethics in accordance with PP of A bylaws. She now joins 13,000 other PP of A members representing portrait, commercial and industrial photographers; retouchers and color artists; service specialists; photographic manufacturers; and photography students. PP of A, founded in 1880, is the world’s oldest and largest association of professional photographers.
