Firemen Ladies Auxiliary purchases insulated jug

North Webster Firemen Ladies > Auxiliary met June 6 at the fire station. Refreshments were served by Dixie Likens. It was announced that a heavy duty, three-gallon insulated jug has been purchased for the fire department. It will be used for transporting hot or cold beverages during emergency situations. THERE WERE 145 children and 52 adults who participated in Vacation Bible School last week at North Webster Church of God. The Brown family puppets were present each day during worship time. Chris Jordan, Brad Leedy, Maria Meadows, Gretchen Reiter, Eric Stookey Shea Metcalf received a Recognition of Merit award for working on the winning Future Problem Solving team. Six students were named “Student of the Month” based on academic achievement and citizenship. The extension will be located in one of the log cabins at Clarksville. Mrs. Barrett gave a report on home education and reading. Her topic was, “The Multiple Danger Os Drugs And Alcohol.” Mrs. Mock will also be hostess for the July 5 meeting. The closing Prayer was given by Mrs. Barrett.

Charm and Chatter officers installed

New officers were installed during the June 6 meeting of the Charm and Chatter club held at the home of Carol Ritchie. They are: Dorothy Snoke — president Virginia Osburn — vice president Colleen Bryant — secretary Carrie Switzer — treasurer Corrinne Staples conducted the candlelight ceremony. Roll call response was "A Good Mini Vacation.” It was answered by 16 members and two guests, Ruth Osburn and Nancy Corbin. Devotions were given by Lunetta Metcalf. She read three poems pertaining to “Father’s Day,” "Brides” and “Housecleaning.” Group singing was led by Mrs. Bryant. A letter was read from Eva Brunner, Franklin. The lesson, “Complimenting yourself through the use of clothes and accessories," was given by Mrs. Bryant. Plans were discussed for the county fair. Reports were given by Mrs. Osburn, gardening; Marge Warner, health and safety; Laverne Clutter, citizenship; and Alice Kissinger, cultural arts, Refreshments of salad, crackers and nuts were served by Mrs. Ritchie and Mrs. Kissinger.

Goodwill club officers installed on June 8

Goodwill Extension Homemakers met June 8 at the House Os Friendship with Mrs. Robert Bush and Velma LeCount as hostesses. Mrs. Bush read a poem entitled “The Legacy.” New officers were installed by Mildred Wilson. They are: Carlin Cox — president Lois Detwiler — vice president Karin Allen — secretary Marie Tom — treasurer The lesson “What Do I Do NowDeath” was given by Mrs. Cox.

Pierceton club gets honor Barbara Sponseller was hostess for the June 6 meeting of Pierceton Extension Homemakers Club with Betty Rose Stahl assisting. The lesson, “Understanding Legal Documents And Insurance” was presented by Irene Waltke. Alice Wilson gave the meditation. The group voted to provide gifts for Senior Citizens summer activities. Esther Miller volunteered to deliver mobile meals on June 8. It was announced that due to a mathematical error the group was not recognized during the achievement night program but has qualified for a Standard Club award. New officers were installed by Ruth Menzie. They are: Sara Scott, president; Mrs. Waltke, vice president; Doris Kubacki, secretary and Betty Burnworth, treasurer. It was decided to have a theater party in August. A carry-in picnic is planned for July at the home of Mrs. Waltke. Refreshments of lemon tarts were served by Mrs. Sponseller and Mrs. Stahl.

Mrs. Staples received the door prize. The time and place of the July meeting is to be announced. Women's club has luncheon Lakeland Women’s Club’s last meeting of the season and luncheon was held June 9 in the banquet room at a local restaurant. Tables were decorated with fresh floral centerpieces in shades of rose, white and yellow. Dorothy Mills and Dorothy Crowell were hostess. Joyce Slotake was a guest. The group voted to make donations to the North Webster, Syracuse and Milford EMS. It was announced that a theater party is planned for August and a tour of antique shops is scheduled. Officers for this year have been Susie Williams, president; Lucy White, vice president; Jane Nave, treasurer and Beverly Braun, recording secretary. New officers will be elected during the first meeting of next year to be held on the second Thursday of September. Following the luncheon euchre and bridge were enjoyed.

Betty Jo Roberst explained how to prevent food spoilage. Mrs. Detwiler read a poem “Welcome July." Mrs. Cox discussed a blight that is destroying sycamore and maple trees. Mrs. Ivy Detwiler was a guest. Hostess for the July meeting are to be announced. A picnic is planned for August. Refreshments of strawberry and chocolate ice cream pie were served by Mrs. Bush and Mrs. LeCount.

Things are humming in North Webster

Things will really start to hum around North Webster on June 22 as last minute preparatins are made by youngsters planning to participate in the Mermaid Festival Cutie Parade at 7 p.m. The parade will form at Camelot Square parking lot and march through town to the school gym for the contest and judging. The Girls’ Youtn League Tourney will get under way at 6 p.m. north of the fairgrounds. It will be interesting to see who shows up to take part in the pie eating contest scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in front of Camelot Hall. Youngsters chosen Cutie King and Queen will each receive $25 and a trophy. First, and second runners-up in each category will receive trophies. Dixie Pryor is chairman of the Cutie Contest. On June 23 a talent contest, for the high school and older group, takes place at Camelot Hall starting at 7 p.m The Boys’ Youth League Tourney continues north of the fairgrounds and a pony pull begins at 6 pm. at the fairgrounds. Karilyn Metcalf is chairman of the talent contest.

There will be three winners receiving S3O, S2O and $lO, plus a trophy. The Pony Pull is sponsored by the 4-County Pony Pulling Assoc. On June 24 the Girls’ and Boys’ League finals will be held at 6 p.m. and the “Queen Os Lakes” swimsuit competition takes place at 8 p.m. at the school gym. June 25 is the big day with the Festival Band Contest at 1 p.m. north of the fairgrounds. 38th annual Festival parade at 4 p.m. with nearly SB,OOO in awards and trophies to be presented and the 38th annual “Queen Os Lakes Beauty Pagant” finals at 8 p.m. at the school gym. Other activities and events too numerous to mention will take place during the week and the Internatinal Palace of Sport and Wax Museum will be opening at 12 noon each day. Deanne Overmyer and Susie Williams are co-chairmen of the queen’s contest. Jay Overmyer is chairman of the festival parade. Charles Parker is general chairman of the Mermaid Festival.

Syracuse man injured in motorcycle crash Steve Savage, 22, Syracuse, sustained a mild concussion in a motorcycle accident Tuesday evening, at 6:10 p.m., June 7. He was taken to Kosciusko Com munity Hospital. Savage, who was driving the motorcycle, failed to negotiate a curve on SR 25 on the south edge of Palestine. He was thrown from the vehicle, which was reportedly going too fast to make the curve Damage was estimated up to wooo. RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP - Sandra Hernandez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hernandez of Milford, has been awarded the Kosciusko Federated Women’s Clubs 1983 nursing scholarship. The honor Wawasee High School graduate plans to attend Indiana University next fall where she will major in nursing. Sandra was selected from many applicants from throughout Kosciusko County and while at Wawasee. she participated in National Honor Society. Wawasee Jazz Band. Wawasee Pride Committee and the Wawasee sports program. The scholarship is offered each year to residents of Kosciusko County who intend to enter the field of nursing. The county has federated women's clubs throughout the county with each club contributing to make the scholarship possible.
