Manchester College offers graduate computer courses
Manchester College Division of Graduate Studies is offering area teachers graduate level courses in computer science education during each of the college’s three summer sessions. The courses are being taught by Manchester in keeping with the college’s approval by the Teacher Training and Licensing Commission of the Indiana State Board of Education to offer an experimental program in computer education. Completion of an experimental program permits the teacher to teach the appropriate courses in the public schools of Indiana. However, the identification of such program will not appear on the teacher’s license until such time as the rules are adopted. Dr. Dwight Farringer, professor of physics presently on sabbatical leave to study microcomputer application in the classroom, will teach one of the second session courses, Math 501: Topics in Mathematics: Advanced Computers for Teachers. Dr. Farringer’s course, worth two credit hours, is scheduled for June 15-28 with registration required bv June 15. A second course trom June 15 to July 6, is the first course in computer programming, Math 501: Topics in Mathematics: Computer Programming I. Byron Smith, instructor of mathematics and computer science, will teach the three hour course which will emphasize laboratory work. Registration closes June 15. Education 580: Special Car, truck collide Jack Salazar, 26, r 1 Milford, was backing his 1970 Plymouth from a drive onto Eisenhower Dr., in Goshen Industrial Park, when it v was hit by a 1978 Chevrolet Truck The mishap occurred shortly before noon on Thursday, May 26. Driver of the truck was Robert Farrel. 58869 CR 1 Elkhart. Farrel told police he swerved, but could not avoid the collision. Damage was estimated at over S2OO to both vehicles.

Floyd Skelton, district manager for United Telephone Company, Inc., announced today that his company is in the progress of adding to the long distance switchboard facilities at Syracuse.

A 12-passenger seaplane was scheduled to visit Wawasee Thursday, bringing executives from Detroit to a convention at the South Shore Inn. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Chokey were here at the weds end, doing some work at their home, which is expected to be ready to move to early in June. It is being done by Kline Bros, and the lot was purchased from Mrs. John (Betty Lee Wilt) Bryan. The grand opening at Clapp’s Foodmaster was a huge success. Everyone received donuts and ginger ale as refreshments. Children were given balloons. The store is being remodeled with new pastry cases, frozen food cases and more space for their meat department. 59 YEARS AGO, JUNE 1,1933 The state convention of the United Brethren church is to be held in Oakwood Park, one week, commencing June 19. A crowd attended the opening dance at Waco, Friday evening. Because of a last minute rush, only part of the piers had been put out into the water, where boats always land each summer, and the lights were not lighted. Earl Peters has bought W. H. Lincoln’s speedboat. It was taken from the Slip last Saturday to Lake James. The first band concert of the season will be held at the corner of Main and Huntington streets next Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. The concerts by the
