Storm causes only minor damage
Despite the rain, high winds and a tornado watch until 2 a m. Monday morning, the Lakeland area was spared any serious damage, late Sunday evening. The only reported incident was on Sunrise Beach, Ogden Island, Lake Wawasee when one-third of a tree feel on electrical lines, disrupting service, at 11:30 p.m., to approximately 70-80 customers for four-five hours. Bob Westfall, Northern Indiana Public Service Company’s Syracuse manager, reported there were a few minor service lines down in the area, but nothing major. High winds on Monday dried up most of the high water problems, however there are still several fields flooded and high water around the lake area. No significant flooding was reported at Tippecanoe Lake, however, there were several incidents around the lake that had ponding around the homes and one home had water up to its front door.

With the adoption of the plan the construction of the bridge over the B O railroad located 1% miles north of Milford on state road 15 is one step closer. The program is to be included under the special federal aid bridge replacement program. Mr. and Mrs. James Wolf and
Elsewhere in the county a chicken house on the Dean Decker farm, Crystal Lake Road, west of Warsaw, was damaged by high winds. Shingles and wooden frames from the building were torn off and scattered across an adjoining yard. High water was also reported on Crystal Lake Road. Several spots on Warsaw streets were flooded Sunday, including Market Street near Holiday Bowling Lanes and South Park Ave. A broken water main contributed to the flooding problems on Market Street. Throughout the state there were 25 people injured when a possible tornado ripped through a mobile home park in Clinton County. In that incident 20-30 mobile homes were heavily damaged or destroyed as the storm sliced into the Country Estates Trailer Park around 11 p.m. The county’s sheriff’s department called the storm a twister, but the National Weather

Service said the damage came from strong thunderstorm winds and not a tornado. State police reported a tornado touched down in southern LaPorte County at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, causing minor damage but no injuries. The twister hit four miles south of LaCrosse, uprooting some trees and damaging a 16-foot tin shed. Funnel cloud sitings were reported between 10:20 p.m. Sunday, and 12:45 a.m. Monday, near Hamlet in Starke County, Terre Haute, near Pittsboro in Hendricks County and near Salem in Washington County. No damage was reported but winds gusting up to 80 miles per hour downed some power lines in Hendricks County. Os Indiana’s 92 counties, 22 in southern Indiana had tornado watches until 5 a.m. Monday, 58 counties were issued watches until 2 am., leaving only the extreme northwest and northeast regions free of tornado worries.

Mrs. Jacob Rink was honored at a dinner held Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merril Rink at Milford in honor of her 78th birthday.
