Two from Syracuse ran Windy Marathon Tony Clouse and Hal Pearson, both of Syracuse, and Joe Dervin, Goshen, ran in the 14th annual Windy Marathon Sunday in Indianapolis. The 26-mile event, living up to its reputation for March winds and rain, began at the new Natatorium at the IUPUI campus and ended in the Athletics Statium. Clouse finished the race in three hours and fourteen minutes and Dervin in 3:21. Pearson’s time was not available. Approximately 350 runners started the marathon. Wysong gets ball in memory of team Wawasee basketball coach John Wysong has placed a basketball in the trophy case in memory of the 1971-72 basketball squad. Wawasee finished 17-5 on the season that year, the best overall season mark in the school’s history, and Wysong said the team was not included in the trophy case anywhere. “No one bothered to put any kind of award or proof of that team’s accomplishment,’’ said Wysong. “I saw a bunch of freshman and JV trophies in there, but nothing on the best basketball season ever,’’ he said. “Anyone in the community who would like to suggest exactly what should be written on the basketball should give me a call,” he said. Wysong said he “wants to get some kind of tradition going” by including the basketball in the trophy case. This season, Wawasee will have a NLC championship trophy and a sectional runner-up basketball in the case for the team's 17-6 effort. League to celebrate anniversary Mrs. Roger (Monica) Lambright of r 2 Syracuse, president of the Tuesday Night Ladies Bowling League, Syracuse, stated the league will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the annual banquet on Tuesday, April 26, at Wawasee Bowl. Officers and members of the league are inviting all former members to attend this special banquet. For more information contact president Lambright, secretary Mrs.. Dennis (Pam) Blosser of r 2 Syracuse and treasurer Mrs. Nelson (Joan) Hoover of New Paris. Reservations for the gratis buffet dinner should be made before April 8.

Walleye fishing opportunities increase Fisheries biologists from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be sampling from early April through mid-May at Big Chapman and Tippecanoe Lakes in Kosciusko County. The purpose of the sampling is to measure survival and population size of stocked walleyes. In addition, angler interviews will be conducted from April through October to determine interest in walleye fishing and harvest of walleyes. These sampling efforts are part of a four year program designed to increase walleye fishing opportunities in Indiana’s natural lakes. Biologists will monitor survival of stocked walleyes to determine stocking rates necessary to produce good walleye fishing. Both lakes will be stocked with two-inch walleye fingerlings each year through 1985. Results from last year’s sampling showed some survival of stocked walleyes at Tippecanoe Lake. There were 39 walleyes collected, ranging from nine to 12 inches long. Survival of walleyes stocked in 1982 at Big Chapman Lake was minimal. However, 20 walleyes from previous stockings were collected. These fish ranged from 10 to 23 inches in length. Biologists are optimistic that these walleye stockings will create some exciting new fishing opportunities for Hoosier sportsmen. Groups interested in more information are encouraged to contact Stuart Shipman at TriLakes Fisheries Station, r 4 Columbia City. Ind. 46725.
